Domepeace Mattifying Scalp Moisturizer Review – Light And Mattifies Very Well
A product for mattifying and moisturizing our balding heads that kind of looked promising was the cream, or more of a lotion, from Domepeace (Domepeace Mattifying Scalp Moisturizer).
I’ve had a bottle of this for just over three months and have used it very often, which tells you it must have ticked some boxes for me – otherwise I would not have used it anywhere near as much.
I’m really happy to find a new moisturizer that does mattify very well, and it is up there with the best mattifying creams I have used and reviewed.
While it ticks a few boxes for me, especially the mattifying and non-greasy aspects, let’s see if it ticks any or enough boxes for you.
Features and Description

This is what Domespeace simply states about the Moisturizer:
This bald head moisturizer calms post-shave irritation, softens dry patches, and leaves a smooth matte finish—no grease, no residue.
I am going to agree 100% with their claims. Now that is unusual!
We dont get quite the amount of lotion/cream as I have seen with many other moisturizers I have used. We get a 1 fl. oz (30 ml) bottle, whereas most others offer 1.5 fl oz/45 ml to 90ml/3 fl. oz. Hold your horses, though, before you think you’re being ripped off — this stuff does go a long way and has worked better than others in terms of mattifying for me, among having other positive attributes.
I did not like the bottle design at first, but I may have been accustomed to tube and tub-type lotions, and just found it a little odd, but it has proved to be very good at dispensing the lotion.
It has a pump top design, and the bottle is transparent, so I can see how much is left. I like both of these features. The black top cap is also useful and makes sure we don’t pump any lotion out accidently when it is not in use!

Ingredients
The bottle does not have an ingredients list, so I had to pull them from the website.
I did not find anything about being free from, derived from natural ingredients, vegan friendly, and other boxes that some consumers need to be ticked. If it does tick any of these boxes, Domepeace is not saying much about them, while other companies use them as marketing selling points. However, I have seen the mention of organic; it does not contain fragrance (so it is fragrance-free), and some ingredients are obviously natural when looking at the official ingredients list.
Here is a breakdown of what’s making this stuff do what it does:
Mattifying / oil-control
- Juniperus communis (juniper) extract – Astringent; helps reduce surface oil
- Geranium maculatum (wild geranium) – Toning and oil-balancing
- Salix alba (willow bark) extract – Mild exfoliation; helps keep pores clear
- Sodium stearate SE – Gives a dry-touch, structured finish
- Cetyl alcohol – Helps create a smooth, non-greasy feel
Hydration & barrier support (non-shiny)
- Glycerin – Draws moisture into the skin without oiliness
- Aloe vera – Light hydration and soothing
- Panthenol (B5) – Supports barrier repair and comfort
- Centella asiatica (gotu kola) – Calming and skin-strengthening
Emollients (softening)
- Apricot kernel oil – Lightweight nourishment
- Coconut oil – Heavier occlusive moisture
- Vitamin E – Supports skin barrier and formula stability
Soothing & conditioning botanicals
- Dandelion root – Antioxidant support
- Shavegrass (equisetum) – Conditioning
- Lavender hydrosol – Mild calming and scent
Stimulating / “active” feel
- Capsicum (cayenne) extract – Warming, tingling sensation
- MSM – Skin-conditioning, often used for comfort
- Clove essential oil – Antimicrobial and stimulating
Preservation & stability
- Phenoxyethanol – Preservative
- Ethylhexylglycerin – Preservative booster
It is worth mentioning that those with sensitive or scalp issues may react to essential oils (clove, lavender), capsicum extract (can cause burning or redness), or willow bark (salicylates). Coconut oil can clog pores for some people, and phenoxyethanol may irritate very reactive skin. As always, patch testing is recommended if irritation is a concern.
The bottom line is that its ingredients show it is a functional and skin-driven mattifier that will moisturize for daily bald-head care.
Scent
Domepeace states it is clean-scented, which I think means it has no scent, as it does not contain any fragrance.
I do get a smell from it, and I have no idea how to say it smells. Once I wash my hands after applying it, I dont get any of the smell from it at all.
All good on that part for me as I dont need a scented bonce!
Using The Lotion
I used the lotion after head shaving and on days that I did not shave my head. If I were going out straight after a shower, I would slap some of this on. The top of my head never sees any real hair, so I am always bald on the top, so I don’t have to be clean-shaven to apply this type of mattifying cream.

Domepeace recommends using one or two pumps of the lotion for each application. I found the amount in terms of pumps depends on how much gets pumped out, but a couple is usually what it takes.
It comes out like a liquid lotion rather than a cream, and I find it very easy to slap on and get on with going out, as shown in the video clip below.
The next photo will show you how much I have used, which is a good sign, showing I must approve of it.

I’ve had more than three months out of one bottle, and my guess is I might get a couple of more weeks (or another 6 to 10 uses – at a guess). I might apply it daily for a few days and then not at all for about three days, and then one week I might use it every other day. I’d say using it daily—a bottle could last a month or six weeks, at a guess!
Mattifying Effect
Straight away it gives a matte finish. However, so do most creams, so I would never use that as the only measurement of how good a product mattifies, although it is still something to consider at first.
After a good few hours, it keeps a good matte effect on my head, and while it is not quite as strong as the Zero Shine by Dermimatch, it is very good and moisturizes too, unlike Zero Shine.
I have not really given much attention to how many hours it lasts, but I know when I leave the home, my head has no glare, and I never notice my head shining when passing through public bathroom mirrors outside the home.
It does not leave my head with a powdery feeling, which is an additional thumbs up.
Moisturizing
I most definitely feel that it is a light moisturizer, and I have not had any scalp dryness at all in the last three months since using it. I dont always have skin dryness issues, though, but I can at times.
It is not greasy at all for the first few hours, and that is what I need. I generally lean toward the more oily skin side rather than dry, so this stuff suits me very well. However, if you lean more towards dry skin, then I am not sure if this will provide enough oils or moisturization for you.
I would call it gentle on the moisturization, which is ideal for me and my leaning towards a more oily scalp.
It dries up quickly enough and does not feel greasy in any way. Like most moisturizers, after a good few hours, I do feel a slight greasy texture to the touch on my head, but that is slight and quite normal when compared with others I have used. Keep in mind, I have been in Thailand while applying this with temperatures ranging from 25 – 34 °C, and that may affect it.
Value for Money
A bottle of this is not cheap, and none of them that truly mattify past the initial application are. In the US, the 1 fl. oz bottle costs $30, and reduced costs can be found on the official website when subscribing to recurring deliveries or a 2 -3 pack.
Other moisturizers I have used are much cheaper, like Formula 10.0.6 Seriously Shine, Bulldog Oil Control Moisturizer, and others. However, some of the ones I have used don’t provide the mattefying effect quite as good as this Domepeace Mattifying Scalp Moisturizer.
Final Thoughts – Verdict (Who’s It For?)
This moisturizer definitely gets the thumbs up on the matte effect it provides. It lasts long enough after applying, and it is non-greasy for most of the day (minimal later on that day).
Moisturizing for me was just about right, with me leaning towards oily skin, but for guys that get very dry skin, I am not sure if this from Domepeace will be enough (you could be fine though).
The bottom line is I would buy and use it again, despite it being pricey. A little goes a long way, which is another plus on top of other aspects I like about it.
