Honest Amish Premium Beard Oil Review – Smell Like a Real Grandpa

Last Updated on March 11, 2024

We’ve got another beard oil review for all of you today! This time we are looking at another beard oil from one of the more notable brands in beard care: Honest Amish.

We’ve looked at their Beard Oils in the past, including the Honest Amish Classic Beard Oil, and the results were very good, in our opinion.

Does this Premium oil beat out the Classic beard oil?

Let’s take a look!

About the Brand: Located in western Pennsylvania, Honest Amish is a big name in the world of beard care. They offer a decent selection of beard and hair care items all made from natural and organic ingredients. They have an oath to never used artificial ingredients or packaging, making sure to keep all of their products fully natural.

2 oz. – 60 ml.

Like the Classic Beard Oil, this Premium Oil comes to us in a solid glass bottle with a glass eyedropper and rubberized grip.

The only “artificial” part of this packaging is the plastic cap, which is most likely there because of hygiene.

The oil is light and yellow, looking almost like day-glow iodine or another less savory “all-natural” fluid.

Unlike some other oils I have looked at, this lid seems to have the capacity to leak. It isn’t much, but there is an obvious oily leak on the glass after I move the bottle around. This could be because of a defect in this specific lid, but it makes it hard to get a hold on.

If you are planning on traveling with this oil, make sure to wrap it in some bubble wrap and possibly store it in a plastic bag just in case.

Scent

This stuff STINKS!

Obviously, the odor is somewhat of a subjective matter, and others may like this scent. For myself though, I think this is just terrible.

It is a rough mix of a piney-wood smell with an intense musk and then a sweet vanilla scent. Everything about it clashes and almost makes me gag.

I could see how someone might enjoy the woody scent, and as the oil dries that does become the prevailing aroma. Though the vanilla musk never really goes away and just… it’s cloying and distracting more than anything else.

I would not recommend this oil on the scent alone.

Ingredients

Back on the positive side, this list of ingredients is expansive. However, unlike most long ingredient lists, everything on this list is easy to see and comprehend. There are no strange or off-putting terms or long scientific names.

Ingredients of note include Jojoba, Avocado Oil, Argon Nut Oil, and Pumpkin seed Oil.

Jojoba and Avocado oil are staples of beard health and are great for fighting against acne and keeping your pores clean. Jojoba also helps keep the skin moist, which is great for making sure you don’t get the dreaded BEARDRUFF!

Argon Nut Oil is noted to help make sure hair stays plumb and moist, making sure it is healthy.

Pumpkin Seed Oil is a noted homeopathic oil that promotes hair growth as well.

Personal Experience

For this review, I used the oil almost every day for a week.

After washing my face, I would massage 4-5 drops of oil into my clean and slightly damp facial hair.

After that, I would run a nice boar hair brush through my beard to make sure everything is nice and straight and to clean off any excess oil.

How is the Texture?

Honest Amish Premium Oil is light and airy. It isn’t watery by any means, but it is lighter than some other beard oils I have tried before.

The light texture is easy to work into the beard, but unlike the Honest Amish Classic Beard Oil, it doesn’t dry out quickly. It actually sticks around for a nice long time.

This is a slight problem in that it is slightly harder to rinse off your hands after applying the oil to your facial hair.

How Easy Is It to Use?

Like most beard oils, this is pretty easy to use. Just place a few drops into your hands, spread it on your palms, and then work it into the skin and bristles of your beard.

Most beard oils recommend 3 drops, but as noted in MANY of my reviews over my time with this website, my fat face needs more.

I typically recommend about 4-5 drops to make sure you can get it in every follicle you can.

Also, make sure to use your beard brush afterward to make sure you can keep your beard hair nice and straight.

Use on Beard

The perfect use for this oil, Honest Amish Premium Oil is best for use with a thick and full beard. It is light enough to carefully work into the follicles of your beard as well as the full length of the beard hair itself.

The light oil is great for making sure all of your hair is covered without having to put too much work into making sure everything is covered.

Use on Stubble

This oil is not the best for making sure your stubble is coming in well. It doesn’t do much for the skin but mostly works on hair follicles and the length of the hair itself.

If you are looking for a good product to help keep your five o’clock shadow looking healthy, then this isn’t really the product for you.

Value for Money

Unlike the Honest Amish Classic Oil, this Premium Oil is about $5 USD more expensive than the Classic Oil.

This makes it somewhat less of a value for money than Classic Oil. Though this could be because there are actually more ingredients involved with the making of the Premium Oil.

Overall, it is still a good buy if you can get used to the scent over time. Though, if you have any reservations, then I might recommend a different beard oil.

Common Consumer Complaints, Issues, and Reviews

Many consumers swear by this oil. The reviews for Honest Amish are overwhelmingly positive on almost every platform where reviews are welcome.

Most often those reviews rave about the oil’s ability to keep the skin nice and moist as well as keep facial hair looking rather healthy. Honest Amish has a reputation for those with long beards and mustaches, including being used as a part of fashion and beard-growing contests.

However, it should be noted that even the most positive reviews do bring up the rather…strange scent. Some describe it as pencil shavings, and once you get that scent in your head, it is hard to ignore.

Others will bring up the value for money, and those that do most often agree that Classic Oil is generally the better option for how much less expensive it is.

The few negative reviews state something that I didn’t experience, but that I could see happening. The bright yellow color does have a tendency to stain. It is more like iodine than anything else, and one consumer even noted that it turned his white facial hair into a sickly yellow.

Overall the negative reviews seem to point out the same feelings I have: the oil may be good but the scent is just too off-putting to want to wear this oil more than once or twice.

Final Thoughts – Who is Honest Amish Premium Beard Oil For?

Overall, this oil was nowhere near my favorite. The scent is just too off-putting and the color makes me think of something nasty rather than something I want to put on my face. While it has a nice effect on the facial hair, the smell is just so awful that I cannot really stand it.

As to the question of who this oil is for? Well, if you really need to find a good beard oil for your long Norse beard or your fashionable Old-West Cowboy look, then you could do much worse than this oil. Though, I would honestly just recommend the Honest Amish Classic Oil more than the Honest Amish Premium Oil. That or you could make your own from a selection of essential oils.

If you are REALLY wanting to try this oil, then I would just recommend wearing a clothespin on your nose when you are applying this. That or find a good cologne to cover up the scent.
