MicroTouch Titanium Head Shaver Review

Microtouch Titanium Head Shaver on its presentation box brand new

So, after testing, using, and reviewing many head shavers, including all the Skull Shaver brand models, the Remington’s, and other brands –plus a couple of random shavers on Amazon, I diligently searched for another head shaver to try out and review.

The MicroTouch Titanium Head Shaver started to show up on my search ventures, and it looked somewhat different in design than others I have used, so I had to get one (of course).

While looking into buying one of these, I came to realize it was very much one of those ‘As Seen On TV’ type of products, which gave me huge reservations as these types of products are usually tacky and fall apart in no time at all. However, I tried to put my judgments and past experiences aside.

About the Company

A section about the company and buying the product felt important with this head shaver.

When I searched to buy the MicroTouch Titainuim, it was available on Amazon, Walmart, Currys & JML (UK), and two websites –microtouchgroom.com and getheadshaver.com, among others, including eBay.

I contacted microtouchgroom.com and did not get a reply, as these seemed like the company that has the head shaver made (they have an about page stating they got started in 2003 MicroTouch). A little further digging led me to ideavillage.com, which is the brand behind the shaver, and MicroTouch, which are men’s grooming products created by them.

Getheadshaver.com is another website created by the brand for marketing this head shaver, and marketing is something these guys do well (that’s why it’s on Walmart’s shelf and sold by JML-affiliated stores).

All that intelligent marketing, but is it any good? Let’s see!

Video Review

You might find parts of the video review of the MicroTouch that I created very useful, especially if you need more visuals of the shaver and/or need to see it in action– head shaving.

Description & Features

Unboxed, you’ll find the shaver, USB power cord, protective blade cap, small brush, and an instructions pamphlet. A nice and simple kit that I like –I don’t need head massagers, exfoliators, etc., which I find useless that come with other head shaver kits.

Something I like a lot about the instruction pamphlet is it mentions important aspects of head shaving and caring for the shaver, which includes giving your head time to adjust to shaving with a new shaver (this is very true). It’s only instructions, I know, but it’s good to see they cover everything needed.

  • Handle/Body – The body of the shaver is round and tapers outwards toward the top. The outer sides are rubberized for grip.
  • Blades and Blade Head – The shaver has 5 rotary stainless steel (bonded with titanium) blades that flex with the various contours of the head while shaving. The whole head section is removable and can replaced when renewing the blades.
  • Cordless and Cord Operation – The shaver is rechargeable and can be used cordless, and it can also be operated when on charge.
  • Charging and Battery – MicroTouch states you’ll need to charge it for up to 3 hours to charge fully the first time the shaver is charged. A fully charged lithium battery should provide a maximum of 60 minutes of runtime. The cord is a USB-C charging type that should be used on a 1 amp 5-volt charging device or adapter (not included).
  • Wet and Dry – The MicroTouch can be used shaving wet or dry and with your shaving lubricant of choice (i.e., shaving cream, soap, gel, etc.)
  • Light Indicators – An orange light shows the shaver is switched on, and this flashes when it is charging. When using the travel lock, the orange indicator light will flash 5 times.
  • Travel Lock – Holding the power button for 3 seconds will lock the shaver and prevent it from accidentally switching on in transit. Hold the button for 3 seconds to switch it back on.
  • Replacement Blades – The shaver head with blades should be replaced every 6 -12 months, depending on how often it is used and the coarseness of the hair.
  • Warranty – I was unable to find warranty information and found they offer a 30 day money back guarantee, minus the shipping fees from UPS.

More About The Features — Pros and Cons

It is worth going into detail about these features and telling you about my findings and what I think and experienced.

The company does a big sell on these and has an over-inflated view of what the shaver can do. The worst statement is that it shaves as close as a manual razor –impossible, and it does not! Alongside the ‘As Seen On Screen’ stuff, it is easy to be put off. However, it has some very good aspects, so hold judgment for now.

Build Quality & Ergonomics

The shaver, as a whole, feels solid enough, and I have no concerns about the build quality.

I found the shape is not as ergonomically friendly as other head shavers, including the Skull Shavers, Remington, and others. Its rounded shape is fine to hold, and the rubberized grip is ideal for preventing the shaver from slipping; however, I do prefer a head shaver when the body fits into the palm more comfortably. Others may like this design, and the shape does not need to be a deal breaker!

Blades and Head

The blades are something that makes the MicroTouch Titanium shine, and where so many others I have used fail.

The stainless steel blades have a titanium coating, and when using them, they feel very comfortable. This is important!

The blades flexing back and forth within their individual plastic section are useful for shaving the various contours of the head. These blades also point inwards, which makes them sit perfectly before they even begin cutting. The Skull Shaver brand of head shavers has a similar design, which I see as superior to others.

Cleaning & Maintenance

The blade head is easily detached and attached for cleaning purposes.

When shaving dry, I give the blade area inside a quick brush out and a blow before placing the shaver head under running warm water.

Adding a blob of antibacterial hand soap helps them get fresher and provides additional cleanliness.

I have not had to replace the blades as yet, as I have only tested and used it for a month. However, the 6 – 12 months advised by MicroTouch seem to be in line with other rotary shavers, unlike some head shaver companies that state they only last for 3 months (they have subscription services that bring in regular cash, of course, from blade renewals).

The blades can also be separated and completely taken apart. However, I would only do this if they need a deep clean or if that was clogged or had any other issue. It’s good these blades are removable, though, just in case.

A new blade head costs around $20, which is a decent price.

Charging and Battery life

When I received the shaver, it already had some charge, but I put it on charge as advised by MicroTouch to make sure it was fully charged. It took another hour or so to charge fully.

charging the Microtouch Titanium Head Shaver

The MicroTouch can be used cordless and with the cord attached. Being able to use it with the cord is useful if or when the battery no longer holds its charge.

MicroTouch states the battery, when fully charged, provides an hour of runtime, which seems about right since I have owned it. I recharged it after about 3 weeks of using it 3 times a week.

The simple indicator lights when it is charging and in use are good enough, although some head shavers like the Grommie BaldiePro have a better percentage indicator. When the battery is low (10 minutes left), the indicator light will flash so we know when to recharge.

Head Shaving Experiences

I used the MicroTouch for a month before writing up this review and used it wet and dry.

As mentioned, I found out this product was one of those ‘As Seen On TV’ types of products, so my expectations were quite low. However, I was pleasantly surprised.

The blades fit the head very well because of the angle at which they sit and how they flex easily along the contours of the head. The blades are the star of the show with this shaver.

The shaves were very comfortable, which I also attribute to the titanium blades.

The main aspect I don’t like or that I prefer on other head shavers is the shape. I much prefer the shavers that hold in the hand better and feel more ergonomically friendly. However, based on the performance, I prefer this shaver over a few others, and I prefer better blades over a more ergonomically friendly shape.

Wet shaving with the MicroTouch Titanium is nice, and it provides more comfort. However, I mostly test them out for dry shaving because if they cannot shave comfortably dry, then they are not good. Some guys like using head shavers for wet shaving, and they are great to use wet for the first few shaves to adjust to the new shaving tool. I used light layers of traditional shaving cream and soap.

The shave gave an as-expected end result. A slight stubble was left around the sides of my head, but all other areas of the head were shaved as closely as needed. I know not to expect manual razor closeness, although one of MicroTouch’s adverts says it does (don’t be silly MicroTouch).

I did run my Skull Shaver Pitbull Gold Pro over my head after the first shave with the MicroTouch, and the Pitbull did get the hair cut a little closer to the skin at the sides of the head, but not much.

Value for Money

The MicroTouch Head Shaver costs around $60 USD (£60 GBP – €70.00 EU), which is a fair price when comparing the costs of other head shavers.

The price of the replacement blades at $20 is also about right and fair.

Final Thoughts – Verdict (Who’s It For?)

I was impressed with the blades and how comfortable the shaves were with the MicroTouch, and it beats a fair few other electric head shavers I have used and reviewed so far (based on the blades).

The lack of warranty (only 30 days money guarantee) and other users reporting the battery failing after not owning the shaving for very long is off-putting, and the overselling selling marketing hype. However, many of these dedicated head shaver companies oversell and have shavers that break after a few uses.

If this shaver lasts, it most definitely beats most apart from the Skull Shaver Pitbull Gold, and the jury is out between this and the Remington.

As always, with electric head shavers –keep your expectations in check as they never shave as close as a manual razor, and they can end up presenting unwanted electrical faults.
