Skull Shaver Overview
Skull Shaver, the American company, was one of the first to jump into the market with ergonomically friendly designed shavers for head shaving. The first Skull Shavers were available on Amazon in 2012 with their patented user-friendly design, and now the company has grown with their shavers being sold in many countries worldwide via their own website and still at Amazon.
Skull Shaver made a smart decision when they decided to patent their unique ergonomically friendly design, as this feature makes their shaver stand out from the crowd among the hundreds of cheaper copies that have flooded the market.
The patented design enables a user to place their fingers between the head of the shaver and the body or handle. It’s ideal for shaving around the back of the head area.
Let’s compare the all-important specs and features that make each of the models different.

The Pitbull Gold and Platinum show the battery charge in numerical value and percentage, and the Platinum also features a cleaning reminder and travel lock indicator.
***Warranty – The warranty of 12 months for all shavers apart from the Platinum (2 Years) only applies in the USA. Outside the USA, customers get 2-year warranty on all shavers.
****Price (approx.) – I have added prices in approx; due to Skull Shaver changing the prices and having various promotions at times. It is worth looking out for one of the models being on offer suddenly.
Motor Differences
We can see by looking at the comparison chart that the Skull Shaver Palm and Pitbull Silver have the same battery capacity of 600 mAh, and the Gold and Platinum have twice as much capacity at 1400 mAh.
Now, I wasn’t sure if they equaled more power for any of the shavers, so I contacted Skull Shaver. This was their reply:
Hi Jason,
Thanks for shopping with us! I am more than happy to assist you!
The Palm 3 motor can be compared to the Pitbull Silver PRO that comes with CR-3 blade instead of the Carver 4 PRO 4 Head Replacement blade like the Pitbull Silver PRO.
There are three main differences between the different Pitbull shavers: included blade type, included accessories, and features.
The Pitbull Silver comes standard with a Carver blade which is specially designed for coarse or thick hair. The Pitbull Gold AND Pitbull Platinum come standard with our most popular blade, the Forte. The Pitbull Platinum has all the same features of Pitbull Gold, PLUS a wash indicator, a travel lock function, a premium travel case, and Platinum rinse stand. The Pitbull Platinum also comes with an extended two-year warranty, while the Pitbull Silver and Gold only come with a one-year warranty.
We hope this helps! Give us a shout with any other questions!
So, in terms of a more powerful motor, Pitbull Gold and Platinum are equally powerful as Pitbull Silver and Palm. The Pitbull Silver and Palm share the same motor and battery capacity.
Side by Side Motor and Blade Test – Pitbull Silver vs Pitbull Gold vs Platinum
I received the information needed from Skull Shaver – the company – about the motors and wanted to put the shavers to the test and see if any shaved quicker than another. I used the Pitbull Silver vs the Pitbull Gold and Gold vs the Pitbull Platinum, and there was no need to include the Palm for the motor because it has the same motor as the Silver.
It is hard to see in the pictures above, but the Forte Blades are beveled, and the Carver are flat. This should enable the Carver to be slightly more aggressive than the Forte, which makes them more suited for coarse hair.
I actually did two tests, and they were side-by-side tests that used both sides of the face. I tested on my face as any differences would be much more noticeable.
I tried to find a difference in power, speed of shave, comfort, and the end result. I tried, but I could not find anything significant, although I may have found the Forte blades on the Gold and Platinum offer a little more comfort. I actually wanted the Gold and Platinum to exceed the Silver, but there was not that much to shout home about.
Where does the Skull Shaver palm fit into this?
Well, we know that the Silver and Palm have the same motor, and the main difference is that the Palm only has a three-blade head. The three-blade head on the Palm is not as good at shaving the head as the 4 blade Forte or Carver, but it still does a great job, and the 3 blades are much better for shaving the face.
The three blades shave the face better because the head is smaller, and it just makes shaving over the various contours of the face easier.
If face shaving is important for you and you prefer the Silver, Gold, or Platinum, you can purchase the three-blade heads separately and switch over blades between a 4-blade type for head shaving and the 3-blade for facial shaving. The blades are all interchangeable.
Differences in Features and Accessories
We know with the Palm and Silver, we get the Carver blades (3 blades for Palm and 4 blades with Silver, which are best suited for coarse hair), and the Pitbull Gold and Platinum have the slightly more expensive (when replacing) 4 Blade Forte blades.
Accessories
- Palm – Includes a useful detachable nose and ear trimmer.
- Silver – Nothing.
- Gold – A small velvet pouch for storing the shaver.
- Platinum – Travel case, rinse stand, and velvet pouch.
The only shaver that has any significant accessories is the Platinum. Now that I am able to compare the shavers, it seems the Palm would be a better purchase than the Silver if I also bought a separate 4 Blade from Skull Shaver as I would have the 3-blade Carver + 4-blade Carver or Forte for around the same cost.
If I wanted a Pitbull but only wanted the rinse stand or the travel case and not both, then I could save money when buying the Pitbull Gold and one of the accessories (although a buyer does not then get 2 year warranty, travel lock, and cleaning indicator). The Rinse Stand costs $14.99, and the Travel Case costs $14.99.
A Pitbull Gold with just the Rinse Stand would cost $110.99 + $14.99 = $115.98 (rather than $219.99 for the Platinum). Add the Travel Case and Rinse Stand with the Pitbull Gold, and the total would be $140.97, which means the extra year warranty costs around $80*.
*The extra 12-month warranty can also be purchased from Skull Shaver and costs $19.99 (£19.99 – €24.99).
Features
One of the main feature differences between the Palm and Silver vs Pitbull is the battery indicator showing in percentage and an extra 30 minutes of runtime. This is quite significant.
The Platinum has the Platinum Chrome finish, which some users may prefer. The Chrome is a coating and not metal, and there have been reports of the finish coming off.
The other difference between them all is the Platinum has an extra 1-year warranty for USA customers that only gets one year on the other shavers and a Travel Lock.
Which Skull Shaver Should I Choose?
After using and testing all the Skull Shaver models and comparing them, I still lean towards the Pitbull Gold being the best buy for most people. It has a good price balance with the best features.
- Palm – Best suited for those who do not want to spend a lot of money and want to see if this brand of head shavers is suitable for them. It gives a great head shave, and that smaller 3-blade head works better than the larger head for facial shaving (don’t forget you can buy a 3-blade head separately that goes with the Palm and Pitbulls).
- Silver – I’m not a fan of the Silver and can only see it is best for a certain person who would benefit from the Carver 4 blade that is supposed to be better for coarse hair.
- Gold – The Pitbull gold seems to be the one best suited for most people in terms of the extra features, including the Forte 4 Blade, longer runtime, and percentage charge indicator. It should be more powerful and offer more comfort than the Silver, but as I mentioned, the power, comfort, and finish were not significantly different for me when using them. This is still my favorite model.
- Platinum – The main reason to buy the Platinum is for the extra 1-year warranty (for US customers) and for the Platinum chrome-colored finish; however, even the 12-month extra warranty can be bought separately, and outside the US, all the shavers have 2 years. A person is buying this model for the finish and the ease of getting the shaver and accessories in one package, really. As mentioned, if you like the Pitbull and don’t require the extra 1-year warranty, then buying the Pitbull Gold and the Rinse Stand and/or Travel Case separately is cheaper. In fact, if you bought everything separately, including the extended warranty, you could save money. The Rinse Stand is a great accessory to have with any of the Skull Shaver models, but not essential.
Of course, the costs are a very important factor for most buyers to consider. Here is a quick reminder from the comparison table.
Palm | Silver | Gold | Platinum |
$39.99 USD (£49.99 – €49) | $99.99 USD (£99 – €99.99) | $110.99 USD (£114 – €119.99) | $219.99 USD (£199 – €199.99) |
Bottom Line: The Palm is the best-priced deal based on saving money overall, and then the Pitbull Gold for the best shaver with the balance of price and extra features.
Where To Buy?
There are various official Skull Shaver distributors located worldwide online that only sell Skull Shaver products. The other main place to purchase is Amazon.
