Cella Aloe Shaving Cream Soap Review – Thick and Silky

Returning to you now dear readers with another great shaving soap that you should all check out.

Today we are going to review a new (to me) soap coming from us all the way from Italy: Cella Milano, which honestly feels like a brand of dessert, but that is probably because I am a very food-motivated person.

How does this classic Italian soap stack up against the soaps we’ve reviewed before? Well, let’s take a look.

I have also tested and reviewed the Cella Almond shaving soap.

About the brand: Cella Milano is an old name in the Italian Barber scene. Cella has been in existence since 1899, in the bustling Italian city of Milano. Since then they have been supplying the barbers of Italy, and then the World at large, with professional and high-quality soaps, creams, and haircare products. They are an old and trusted name in the shaving and barber community.

Like when we reviewed the RazoRock XXX Shaving Soap a few weeks ago, this container arrived in a small plastic bowl with a rounded bottom. It fits into its own lid rather easily, and the rounded bottom makes it easy to hold.

Unlike the RazoRock shaving soap, this soap container is much smaller. That makes it easy to hold and easy to transport. Honestly, this soap would be really easy to stash in your checked baggage for a trip.

The plastic container is not easy to break, and its small nature obviously means it will take up less space.

About the Scent

Cella Milano uses a Parfum scent in this soap, which is a classic masculine scent.

It has a deep base aroma of musk, that moves into a slightly floral scent.

One of the best parts is that I have to really bury my nose in the soap to smell it. Why is this good? Because it isn’t overwhelming. It is soft and subtle and goes great with more standout colognes or aftershaves.

Ingredients

Cella Milano packs their soaps with all-natural ingredients.

To quote: “Aqua (Water), Stearic Acid, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Potassium Hydroxide, Glycerin, Myristic Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, Potassium Carbonate, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Bambusa Vulgaris (Bamboo) Leaf/stem Extract, Bisabolol, Parfum (Fragrance).”

Plant extracts and natural minerals make this soap easy to understand and use. No huge words or weird ingredients.

The Lather and Shaving Experience

For this shaving review, I broke with convention just slightly.

Those who follow my writing know that I typically shave once or twice with a new shaving soap without using pre-shave. This time was pretty much the same, but because of the texture of the soap, I decided to attempt to use two different razors instead.

How does it Lather?

The lather on this soap is very rich and thick. The aloe formula, while good at protecting and nourishing your skin, is very thick and heavy. This means it takes time to actually lather in a shaving bowl.

The lather builds much slower than most other soaps I have used.

This isn’t a bad thing, but it just means you have to take more time when you are about to shave.

Lather from the Puck – Face Lathering

Loading the brush from the puck and lathering on the face is actually quicker than attempting to build the lather in a shaving bowl.

I would recommend face lathering than lathering in a bowl for this specific soap, as it is so rich you are going to be able to get a much better lather quicker this way.

How is the Texture?

Alright, no more beating around the bush.

This soap is rich and heavy. The Aloe and Olive Oil make this soap feel like Crisco or Pam rather than a soap to use on your face.

That isn’t a bad thing though, as it can help retain the moisture in your skin and protect it from your blade.

The downside is you are going to be rinsing your razor for much longer than you think. This stuff will stick to metal like crazy.

This soap’s texture makes it better for use with a straight razor or a shavette rather than a normal safety razor. God forbid you to decide to use a multi-blade safety razor.

How is the Overall Shave?

Overall, the shaving experience was pleasurable and nice. Afterward, my skin felt nice and clean. Unlike some other soaps, this one let my skin feel soft and nourished and not dried out.

The heavy texture is worth the feeling of this baby’s soft skin.

Value for Money

For this kind of soap, you’d expect something like $20+ USD. Fortunately, that is not the case.

For the most part, you can find this soap pretty inexpensively. The MSRP is around $14-$15 USD, but it can be frequently found on sale for less than $10 USD.

Common Consumer Complaints, Reviews, and Positive Feedback

This soap gets reviewed highly by those who try it. For good reason as well.

Many consumers really enjoy the texture, the scent, and the feeling of the texture on the skin.

There are very few complaints. Those that do bring up complaints will comment that it is sometimes difficult to make sure to get the best coverage on the face. I didn’t have this issue, but I can see what people have issues with.

It can be hard to get the most out of the lather if you don’t make enough. Though at this point, I would recommend just lathering from the puck to make up for any lacking lather.

Final Thoughts – Who is Cella Milano Aloe Vera Shaving Cream for?

For me, Cella Milano is a solid recommendation.

If you already have a favorite soap you are happy with, I highly encourage you to stick with that one. However, if you are up for something new, you can do much worse and can’t do much better.

At the low price, it sits at, you can get a nice shaving puck for inexpensive and give it a try for almost nothing.
