Few and far between are the moments in my life where I have wanted to smear something called Jelly on my face. However, I am always willing to try something once.
Enter Bossman Brand with their beard product, which they called Bossman Beard Jelly. No, not Beard Oil or Beard Balm, but Beard Jelly. They’re not the most pleasant of mental images, but each to their own, I suppose.
Bossman is a company that has been around since 2013 and is a purveyor of all kinds of grooming products for men. Their products range from beard care to hair care to skincare, with multiple kits and combos for starting out.
So lets take a look at this beard jelly and see how it measures up to our own impossible standards.
Bossman Beard Jelly Product Description
It is my personal opinion that Bossman originally intended to make glue. That or they bought their original containers from a defunct Elmer’s Glue factory because that is exactly how these bottles of beard jelly look.
Honestly, looking at the bottle I have it makes me think of a container of wood glue. I wouldn’t get those confused because one is black, and the other is blue and yellow. I also don’t keep wood glue in the bathroom, but no judgment if you do.
They have a screw top that opens up and allows you to squirt a small amount of jelly onto your fingers. You only need a small bit for every application, so this method seems like the best option overall for more precise control of how much you are going to use.
Scent
Bossman has seven different scents available for purchase: Stagecoach, Magic, Hammer, Gold, Naked (Meaning Unscented), Royal-Oud, and Vetiver. They also have an unscented version.
For this review, I decided to go with Stagecoach, which is supposed to smell like Tobacco, Leather, and Bourbon.
I can smell the bourbon more than anything else. It has a strong vanilla aroma that stands out over the others. There is a slight hint of the leather smell, but I can’t get the tobacco scent to save my life.
Because of the thick jelly texture, this stuff is designed to last all day, so you are going to smell this all day. It mellows extremely slowly, so be prepared to smell vanilla bourbon constantly.
Also, the smell is subtle, but it will clash with most other scents if you are using other products. However, we can purchase the uncented version if we wish not to have scent clashes or scent is on the avoid list for whatever reason.
Ingredients
Overall, this is one of the shorter ingredient lists I have seen in a while. I like it. It’s short and to the point with no filler, just easy-to-read ingredients.
It is an all-natural and organic mix of seed and vegetable oils, castor oil, and beeswax. These are rich in vitamins and chemicals that promote healthy hair growth and skin.
This gets a serious A+ from me.
User Experience
For this review, I have taken about a week to review this beard jelly, applying it to my cleaned and brushed beard after a good shower or a face wash.
Overall, I found the experience of using the beard jelly to be soothing and nice. It works well to make my beard hair feel nice and soft and helps keep my skin healthy.
So why don’t I like it as much as some other options?
How is the Texture?
Bossman beard jelly sits between beard oil and beard balm. It isn’t as thick or heavy as a beard balm, but it is nowhere near as thin as a regular beard oil.
It has the feeling of a cream, like something I would use as a pre-shave. It is thick but very spreadable.
Because it is so thick, it isn’t going to dry easily. That means you are going to have protection from the elements and the glossy look on your beard hair all day. It also means you will have that scent all day, so I hope you’re prepared for that.
The major downside is that you are going to feel the oily texture on your face all day as well, especially if you overdo it and put too much on your face.
How Easy is it to Use?
Fortunately for us, it is not easy to overdo it. The screw-top design means you are only going to get a small amount per squeeze (pea size Bossman states), which is all you need.
Overall, working the beard jelly into your normal routine is pretty easy. You just add it on to your “great ready” routine along with your beard trim and brushing your teeth in the morning.
The only added step to using it rather than a beard oil or balm is the need to shake the bottle before you dispense the jelly. Apparently, if you leave it sitting for too long, the ingredients start to separate.
You do want to ensure you have washed your skin before using it, though, and I would recommend a good scrub with a washcloth to ensure you are nice and exfoliated before applying this beard jelly.
Value for Money
Now is where we slam into a brick wall.
When writing this review, Bossman Brand Beard Jelly is $20 USD on Amazon and $18 USD on their website.
That is highway robbery! Freeway robbery! Pleasant Country Lane Robbery even!
I suppose if you wanted or needed a thicker product with the same properties as beard oil, you might be willing to pay the cost of 2 pizzas just for that. Though, you can get some nice beard oils for much less.

The majority of customers who buy this product seem to rave about it. Amazon reviews are skewed, with 70% of them being 5 stars.
However, there are a fair number of negative reviews as well.
Positive Reviews
One of the overall positive points that customers want you to know is that they love the smell. There seems to be a good mix of individuals who are buying all the scents available, and they seem to love them all. One consumer noted that his face smelled like fruit loops all day, and while they considered that a positive….I would not.

Having a company committed to making sure to keep that transparent is always a good thing.
Consumer Complaints
Critical reviews of the Beard Jelly are few for the most part.
It seems to me that one of the chief complaints seems to be on the bottles themselves. It seems to be that the separation of the ingredients gets worse as the product ages and the bottle gets more empty. Mixing things and dispensing them properly might take more than a firm shake. Maybe a pump would work better.
Many consumers seem not to like the oily or greasy texture as it dries, and I cannot blame them for that. One customer noted that the oil does tend to rub off onto other things you might be using on your face. If you are talking on the phone, then your phone might get greasy. If you are wearing a face mask, the oil is going to seep into it. Hope you like the scent because it is sticking around –but as mentioned, you can buy unscented.
Finally, for as many people who like their chosen aroma, there are almost the same amount of people who don’t. I can commiserate somewhat. When you use terms like Vetiver and Stagecoach to describe your scented products, it’s less descriptive of the aroma and more evocative. Give me something more normal to know what I want first.
Final Thoughts – Who is Bossman Beard Jelly really for?
Overall, I did like this beard jelly. I thought it was interesting to try, and the texture was kind of fun. Though, to be honest, it didn’t stand out to me.
As I was using it, every time I found a positive point, I could also think of other beard oils I would much rather wear for one reason or another.
So, who is this really for?
Well, if you have a thicker beard and need something that lasts, then I could recommend this product. Make sure to get it on a sale though. There is no reason anyone should pay full price for this.
