Beard Guyz Beard Balm Review – Best For Unruly Beards

Those who have been reading my reviews for a while are aware of my attitude toward beard balms. For the most part, I like their effect on my facial hair, as well as their moisturizing and medicinal properties. However, the thick texture leaves a great deal to be desired.

The Beard Guyz is a male-centric group devoted to making grooming and beauty projects for men and their facial hair. They are part of the same popular brand found on Amazon, Van Der Hagen.

They have an extensive list of products, from foams, butter, creams, tools, oils, accessories, and even some swag-like t-shirts for you to rep their brand.

The Beard Guyz also has a good library of videos on YouTube and their website, giving you some how-tos for using their product. Honestly, some of the best stuff if you are just getting into beard care.

How does their beard balm stand up, though?

Just looking at this beard balm, you can see the beeswax. It almost looks like a can of beeswax or some kind of butter spread.

It is a thick and soft-smelling balm that works well as a styling product in addition to its medicinal properties. More than anything, this balm feels like it is designed for someone with a long and thick beard, especially if you have a beard that is very unruly and sticks out all over the place.

The packaging for this product is very eye-catching with silver and orange colors. It certainly stands out, and would catch my eye on the shelf.

Scent

I do love the scent of this beard balm.

At first, the aroma hits with a deep forest-like musk with a baseline salty note. Quickly though, it moves into a light and lovely floral citrus smell. It makes me think of orange blossoms opening and blooming in the middle part of the year.

Overall, the aroma makes me think of summertime at the seaside or fresh rain in an orange orchard.

Ingredients

Like the scent, this beard balm excels in the ingredient components. It isn’t all-natural, but it has some great additives for your face.

It has an extensive list of natural ingredients that are great for your beard: Almond Oil, Jojoba Oil, Coconut Oil, Pumpkin Seed Oil, Shea Butter, and enriched Vitamin E.

All of these ingredients just want the skin and hair ordered to make sure it is moisturized, soft, healthy, and bright. It also promotes blood flow to the capillaries under your skin, which makes your hair grow faster and stronger.

It also comes with beeswax, which helps to make sure the balm will hold your beard in place if you are going for a specific style.

User Experience

For this review, like my other reviews, I used this beard balm after my showers every day for a week.

At least that was the plan. Honestly, with how this stuff feels on my face, I found myself dreading putting this product on my face. I almost feel guilty because there are aspects of this beard balm I like.

However, once I realized that I was doing everything I could to avoid putting this beard balm on my face, I figured it was time to stop stalling and just put all my thoughts down early.

How is the Texture?

Here is the major issue.

After applying this balm, my skin felt so greasy and nasty. That is normal for the first hour after applying a beard balm, but most of the time, the balm will absorb into the skin and dry slowly on the beard hair to make it look shiny and well cared for.

The labeling in the directions says that this is an oil-based formula that your skin will absorb the balm, but my skin felt greasy and oily almost 4 hours after using it. When my beard started to itch (which I haven’t had since I started using beard products), after scratching my beard, my fingers came back feeling like I had eaten a 12-piece fried chicken buckle from KFC.

So not only did it not keep my skin from feeling itchy, but it made my skin feel nasty. Honestly, it was like I had rubbed an entire tube of chapstick on my face.

After a few more hours, I needed to get back to the bathroom and scrub everything off—first time for that.

How Easy is it to Use?

Overall, it is not hard to apply beard balm.

After making sure your face is clean, just take a small amount of the balm and work it into your beard and skin.

Follow that up with a good brush with your beard brush or beard comb, and you are ready to go.

With this balm, I would highly recommend that you use a great deal less than you think. A little goes a long way, which is good when you are on a limited budget.

Value for Money

More than any of the other products I have reviewed, I am finding that this category is variable depending on where you decide to acquire Beard Guyz Beard Balm.

Currently, on Amazon, the least expensive option for this is $15 USD, but if you go to the actual Beard Guyz website, you can find it for $8 USD. Technically, it is $10 USD, but it is currently on sale for the holidays.

There is also an option for getting it at Walmart for $10 USD, which you can find on their website.

Don’t pay 15 USD for this. It isn’t worth it. You will get a deal if you can get it for 10 or less. I would say do not pay more than 10, or you are getting ripped off.

Common Consumer Complaints, Issues, and Positive Reviews

Like before, almost 80-90 percent of the Beard Guyz Balm consumer reviews are positive. There are some pretty critical points, though.

Positive Reviews

Most of the positives are just one sentence about how “this works” or “best beard product ever” which I hate because I can’t see WHY people like it.

Consumers are fans of the scent, though. Almost every person who goes into detail about why they like the Beard Guyz Beard Balm mentions they are fans of the aroma. They talk about the freshness of it and how it doesn’t overwhelm.

The other point I have seen is how much it softens the beard hair and makes it much easier to comb and style. Softer hair does make for an easier way to get a beard brush and beard comb through. Also, it keeps the hair from falling out, which is great for us guys with patchy beards.

Consumer Complaints

Even the positive reviews note how greasy this product feels when you are applying it. However, for them, it seems to be absorbed.

The vast majority of the negative reviews are critical of the aroma. Some even say it caused their eyes to burn or their head to ache. All I can think of is that they possibly have an allergy they aren’t aware of because the scent is nice and soft for me. Though, it could be very subjective.

At least a few have said that it smells like curry, but I can’t smell that at all.

Other consumers talk about how much it just doesn’t work for them. That part I can commiserate with. For me, it was the fact that there was still itching and a small amount of skin flaking. Others are complaining that it just doesn’t hold their beard in place and just makes their face a greasy mess.

Buyer beware in this case, because I am not the only one who didn’t like this product.

Final Thoughts – Who is Beard Guyz Beard Balm really for?

Overall, I would not recommend this product to anyone with a shorter beard. Only use this one if you have a longer beard.

How long? I would recommend at least over an itch.

For guys like me, this is going to feel like a greasy mess that will only make you want to wash your face again.

Also, as I have noted before. DO NOT go for the 15 USD option. Get it on sale if possible.
