Best Damn Beard Amplifier Review – Beard Cream by Another Name

Next on the chopping block for the Duke Cannon line of beard care products is the somewhat mysteriously named Best Damn Beard Amplifier.

Shall we see how it stacks up against other beard products and live up to its name?

About The Brand

Duke Cannon is an American men’s grooming products brand that offers a wide range of facial, body, and of course, beard care products. They are a company that also provides a subscription service and states they contribute a portion of proceeds to US veterans.

As we have discussed in our last article, Duke Cannon is one of those companies that has decided to cash in on the MANLY MAN image. Their mascot on the container is a lumberjack, after all, the manliest of manly professions really. I just find this type of marketing more than a bit cynical. However, it must be working for them.

5 oz plastic container

So what exactly is this Beard Amplifier? That is a question I really needed to look into before even looking at this product. From my experience, plus looking at all the advertising and other reviews, I can safely say it is basically a glorified form of beard cream or beard oil.

Like beard oil or cream, it is designed first and foremost to create healthy and moisturized skin. Secondly, it nourishes the facial hair to make it softer and yet also stronger to prevent shedding it all over the place.

The only thing it really offers extra from other beard products is that it can add volume to your beard, like adding hair mousse to your beard. It makes the hair seem larger and fuller and can make your facial hair look more lustrous and shiny.

Scent

Our first real stumbling block when it comes to recommending this product, the scent leaves much to be desired.

It starts out with a soft musk, but very quickly hits you with a floral-like citrus aroma. It almost punches you in the face with how strong it is. Taking a whiff from the jar almost causes my nose hair to curl. It sticks with you for a long period as well, lingering on your senses.

This wouldn’t be so bad if the scent was pleasurable, but the mix they have feels incredibly artificial. Honestly, I feel like I am sticking my nose directly into some type of corporate air freshener you would smell in a doctor’s or dentist’s office. Not a great experience overall.

Ingredients

The ingredient list on this stuff is much more understandable than the Duke Cannon Best Damn Beard Wash we reviewed recently. Much more simple names and definitions of what exactly things are for. If I am going to repeatedly lather my face with a strange white cream, I would like to know what is actually IN the product.

See this is how I sacrifice for you, my dear readers.

To point out a few key ingredients worth noting:

  • Shea Butter is great for keeping skin moist and soft, which helps to cut down on ingrown hairs.
  • Avocado Oil and Butter are really great for skin and hair because they can increase blood flow to your hair follicles and clean out your pores to encourage hair growth. They also strengthen hair and prevent dandruff.
  • Aloe Vera leaf oil helps to eliminate the brittleness of your facial hair and prevents intense frizzing and curling.

User Experience

For the purpose of this article, I used the Best Damn Beard Amplifier every other day for two weeks. Each time I applied it to a freshly clean beard, fresh from the shower, and brushed it out thoroughly.

The only other product I used during this time was the Best Damn Beard Wash, the review of which should be hitting the Shaving Advisor site any day now.

After one week, I also trimmed my beard to see if trimming was any different from before.

It is worth noting, this product replaces the need for beard oil or beard balm. Attempting to use them together is just going to leave your face a greasy oily mess.

How is the Texture?

The best way I could describe the texture of this stuff is like mayo or possibly sour cream. It is a thick white cream that is very easy to work into the beard and get all the way down to the hair follicles.

It is easy to apply, but it feels oily and slick on the skin, especially if you accidentally use too much.

The ads and the packaging claim it is a “non-oily formula.” They are lying.

As I am writing this, I put on some Beard Amplifier 8 hours ago, and I still feel like there is some kind of product in my beard.

It’s not a maddening feeling, but you can certainly feel the oil in the product as you wear it.

How Easy is the Beard Amplifier to Use?

In short? Very.

After making sure your beard is nice and clean, but also dry, get a small dap of the cream and just slowly work it into the beard and face. Afterward, run your beard brush and/or beard comb through your bristles.

Putting this stuff in your beard is quick and easy, but gauging how much you actually need can be somewhat of a chore. Get too much, and you wind up with a greasy face. Don’t get enough, and you might need to go back for seconds.

You’ll need to use this for a while before you dial in exactly how much you need. Luckily there is plenty here with each container. This leads us to…

Value for Money

While not cheap really, this product is kind of niche. Not everyone with a beard is going to need this product, just a few who have more ravaged beards than your average guy.

Cost – $15 – £13.50 subscription

If you are looking for something to rejuvenate your beard, this price point is going to hit just the right amount. It is also going to last you for at least a month, maybe more.

I wouldn’t recommend it for regular use, because that might just be a waste of money you could spend on stuff that is much more important: the essentials like pizza and beer.

Common Consumer Complaints, Issues, and User Reviews

Duke Cannon products are generally very happy with their beard amplifier purchase. It is hard to find any kind of issues other users have brought up, that I haven’t already discussed above.

On a positive note, many users rave about how it helps to keep their beard and skin hydrated and solves the problem of having itchy beards with flaky beard-druff.

Many also bring up that this stuff helps to make their beard look fuller and more lustrous than before, which I can definitely see if you don’t take care of your beard on a regular basis. Many guys with bigger or longer beards can really see the benefit of using this to help keep their beard hair supple and soft.

The negative reviews note the same things I have brought up here. Other than its extra moisturizing and conditioning abilities, it really doesn’t do much that can not be gotten just as well from beard oil or beard balms.

Again, the smell is also…unique to say the least. If you like it, more power to you. However, you should be aware that there is a significant number of people who are definitely going to be put off by your beard.

Final Thoughts – Who is Duke Cannon Best Damn Beard Amplifier For?

All of this to say, who really needs this?

Guys who have large beards, or who want to have large beards that are coming in patchy are the best customers for this kind of product. If you have a batch beard, then this product is worth a good shot. Just try it out, and see what you think.

If you already have a healthy beard, you probably don’t really need this beard amplifier. It might be worth a shot if you have a wild hair, but for the most part, just skip it.
