Honest Amish Beard Balm Review – Classy Protection with Old Fashion Style
Honest Amish is back!
If you will remember, dear readers, we’ve taken a look at their beard products before in the form of their Honest Amish Premium Beard Oil and the Honest Amish Classic Beard Oil. To balance the beard reviews I’ve covered, I am throwing in a review of the Honest Amish Beard Balm.
Honest Amish is a beard and skincare company specializing in all-natural and organic ingredients with a classic style. It has an old-fashioned flair that reinforces its natural aesthetic.
With a company that has taken a serious oath to maintain a strict ingredient list, we have to judge this beard balm on another standard.
Now, I am not a fan of beard balm in general. I’m more of a fan of beard oils, personally. So, I might be more critical of this product than most.
Let’s see just how much it stacks up.
Honest Amish Beard Balm Product Description
Honest Amish Beard Balm comes to us packed tightly in a screw-top tin. The company uses nothing but recycled aluminum and glass for its containers, so they feel heavy and rough. Though that could be just the amount of beard balm, they managed to get into this tin.
It says it only contains two ounces, but it feels like more. Mostly because I have been using this stuff almost every day for a week, and it feels like I have barely put a dent in the amount at all.
The container is also small enough for you to travel with easily. It won’t take up much room in a bathroom kit bag. At the 2-ounce level, you can also take it with you on a plane rather than having to put it in your checked baggage.
The differences in amount come from where you get the product itself. If you buy a tin from Amazon, you can get it at the 2-ounce level, but if you order it from the Honest Amish website, comes in the 2 and 4-ounce versions.
Scent
The scent of Honest Amish Beard Balm is the only real tripping point for me regarding this product.
It has the same scent as the Honest Amish Premium Beard Oil, which I believe I called “atrocious” in that article. Over time, that scent has slowly started to grow on me (like a fungus), but it is still not the best for me.
It starts off with a sweet spice aroma that kicks hard, but quickly moves into a floral scent that is rather cloying on the senses. Finally, it finishes with a peppermint smell, which is great for making it feel refreshing, but doesn’t really follow on from the warm sweet smell the aroma started out with.
It is an acquired scent, one that I could get used to over time, but not if I could find something better.
If you are using any other products in your beard, then be prepared for it to clash hard. This aroma is rough and will almost overpower anything else you apply.
Ingredients
The ingredient list of Honest Amish Beard Balm looks like a checklist of everything that your skin could possibly want to make sure your skin is healthy. It is chocked full of natural ingredients designed to moisturize and protect your skin.
Highlights include things like Argan Oil, Jojoba Oil, Pumpkin Seed Oil, Olive Oil, and Cedarwood Oil. All of these combined things offer natural sources of Vitamin B, amino acids, antioxidants, anti-microbials, and anti-inflammatories. All of this is designed to make your skin feel great and hair sleek and shiny.
The only thing that does give me pause is an extract of Peppermint Oil, which can be slightly dangerous to people with sensitive skin. It might dry out sensitive skin and cause cracking, so if you have any issues, maybe avoid this balm.
User Experience
For the purposes of this review, I have taken a week of using this balm almost every day on my freshly cleaned beard.
Though typically, two weeks are best for seeing results from most products, I could see a difference in how my face felt almost immediately.
I could tell that my skin felt immediately softer and more moist. Recent traveling had made my skin dry out, and this beard balm immediately started treating beard-druff issues.
How is the Texture?
The overall texture reminds me of beeswax, which makes sense as beeswax is one of the major components.
It is soft and gentle, very easy to spread and use on your hands and on your face. It also warms quickly on the skin, making it feel very nice as you massage it into your whiskers.
The one issue is if you use too much, then you will get an oily or waxy texture on your face. The key is to use just enough to avoid that.
How Easy is it to Use?
Overall Honest Amish Beard Balm is pretty easy to use.
The process is simple: get about a dime’s worth onto your finger, rub it into your palms to spread it out, and “emulsify” it, then spread it into your whiskers and onto the skin of your face.
A dime’s worth goes pretty far, and even if you have a full long beard, I would not recommend more. Unfortunately, if you do get more then that leads to the oily residue.
You’ll have to dial it in after a day or two of use.
Value for Money
As of time of writing, you can get Honest Amish Beard Balm for about $13 USD on Amazon or $13 USD on the Honest Amish website. The 4 oz version on the Honest Amish website costs around $23 USD, so you can save a few dollars buying a 4 oz if you plan to continue using the beard balm long term.
The question becomes, “Is that a fair price?” and honestly, I would have to say yes.
The product will last you for a good bit of time. I have barely scratched the surface after using this for a few days straight. Using this daily would probably take me about a month and a half to finish just 2 ounces.
2-3 months of a quality product for just $13 bucks? Sounds like a good deal to me!
Common Consumer Complaints, Issues, and Positive Reviews
Overall, people really seem to like the Honest Amish Beard Balm product. Though there seem to be more a mix than normal between the positive and the negative.
Positive Reviews
Many reviewers comment positively about the effect the balm has on the beard. Many guys comment that it makes their beard softer and improves the luster and shine of their beard hair. You can thank all the natural ingredients for that. The whole balm has been built from the ground up to make your beard better and healthier.
Secondly, customers have commented about how much the balm tames the beard. Multiple commenters talk about how the balm keeps stray hairs in line and does not let the beard get wild or frizzy. This is especially true for guys who spend a great deal of time outdoors or possibly in some professions that are hard on the body and face.
Finally, I have noticed multiple comments about how the beard balm helps out with the dreaded beard-druff and the omnipresent beard itch. This I can also attest to. My skin has never really felt better. I haven’t had to scratch or itch my beard in days, and it feels very comfortable on my skin.
Consumer Complaints
When looking at consumer complaints, one complaint stands out more than anything else: the scent. It is divisive. Some people like it, but a great majority of individuals are not fans of the aroma at all. That is probably one of the things that turns people off the most, and it is hard to be a fan of something when you can’t stand the smell of it on your face.
Complaints also reach into people talking about how they do not like the texture at all. Many say it is too greasy or oily. As I noted above, you typically have that issue if you use too much, but I could see how it is difficult to dial in exactly how much you need to use on your beard.
Finally, I have seen a few consumers complain that the balm doesn’t hold well. Hold, in this case, is related to how well it holds the beard to a specific style of beard. If you want to style your beard, this would be best combined with beard wax, rather than attempting to use it as a styling product.
Final Thoughts – Who is Honest Amish Beard Balm really for?
Overall, I would have to say that I very much enjoyed Honest Amish Beard Balm. I’m not a huge fan of beard balms, but the ease of use, the mixture of ingredients, and the soothing feeling on my skin really won me over with this.
If you are looking for a new beard product? Get this Beard Balm.
If you have issues with dry and flaky skin? Get this Beard Balm.
I definitely recommend it.
