King C. Gillette Beard & Face Wash Review – A Refreshing Wash

holding a bottle of King C. Gillette Beard & Face Wash

This is the second King C. Gillette product I have tested, used, and reviewed for Shaving Advisor. The other one is the King C Gillette Beard Oil.

We’ve seen Gillette on this website multiple times, including Jason’s reviews of the King C Gillette Safety Razor and Gillette Labs Heated Razor.

All this is to say that Gillette is one of those traditional names in the shaving game, and they have a wide range of products.

Last time, I enjoyed using the King C Gillette Beard Oil despite not favoring the big corpo name.

So how will the King C. Gillette Beard and Face Wash stand up to the test? Is it the best a man can get? I promise that is the last time I will use that joke. You know, until the next Gillette product.

The King C Gillette Beard Wash comes in a larger-than-normal bottle that holds 11 ounces worth of shampoo. While that may not sound like much, a great deal of beard products only come with a minuscule amount of any kind of soap.

The beard product market is a racket, I tell ya.

This amount is good to last for a long time, which is good for guys who want to save money. Beard health in this economy?

The bottle is plastic rather than glass, meaning it is light and great for traveling. The one issue with that is the pump, which cannot lock it and keep it from squirting all over the place inside your bag.

I do like the label, though. The blue and copper is a great color combination and makes me feel classy when using it.

Scent

The overall scent of this product is nice and rich. It starts with a sweet aroma that makes me think of honey and flowers. It’s light and not cloying.

However, the beard wash follows it up with a hit to the nose with the Menthol aroma.

Menthol has been added to get a cooling feeling when you apply the lather to your face. Menthol is known for its sharp and heavy scent, and it just cuts right through everything else.

The trade-off here is that it does have a refreshingly clean scent and feel, but I hope you like the smell of mint.

Ingredients

When it comes to things like shampoo, conditioner, beard, and face wash, the ingredient list is always going to be chock full of scientific words that look like serious tongue twisters.

I always worry about sounding like some kind of anti-intellectual when I mention large and hard-to-read ingredient lists. 90 percent of them are fine and work as preservatives, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t off-putting.

I will highlight the Argan Oil, Avocado Oil, and Coconut Water.

Coconut Water moisturizes skin and reduces puffiness and swelling. It also helps to keep your skin looking young by adding elasticity.

Argan Oil is an ingredient I have mentioned before. It reduces swelling and itchiness and treats acne.

Avocado Oil also keeps skin moist and protected from the elements.

I mentioned the Menthol above, and it is worth mentioning here again. Mostly because Menthol can cause some irritation for guys with sensitive skin. It is an alcohol base, so it could also dry out your skin. You might give this a pass if you have a problem with sensitive skin.

User Experience

For this review, I added this beard wash to my shower routine. The pump bottle makes it easy to add to my shampoo routine.

I washed my face and beard with this every day for a little over a week.

Overall, this beard wash was light, refreshing, and very cleansing.

Using it feels great, and I have noticed my skin feeling nourished and cleaned after every shower.

How is the Texture?

The texture of this shampoo is thin, but very oily and sticky. It feels like most shampoo but leaves a slight oily film after spreading it on your skin.

The good news is that it lathers quickly and builds to a very rich-feeling foam. You can feel the oil texture as you scrub your face, but it rinses off easily.

After rinsing, it leaves your skin feeling soft and your hair clean. I have not had to deal with any kind of beard acne, ingrown hairs, or the dreaded BEARD-DRUFF!

The one real negative in the texture department is that you will probably need to use more than you think. Just one squirt wasn’t enough to get all of my face. Then again, I do not have a small face, so your mileage might vary.

How Easy is it to Use?

Overall, this is one of the easiest products I’ve used as a men’s grooming product reviewer. Adding it to my routine of showering every day or every other day is all it requires.

I recommend adding it to a shower routine rather than washing your face in the sink. Running water helps it to rinse better.

You can scrub using your hands or a washcloth, but I prefer the washcloth. It works well to exfoliate your skin and get the lather built quickly. Many guys don’t know the value of exfoliation, and it shows.

Value for Money

This is one of the parts that make this product excel.

At the time of writing, you can find this product on Amazon for only $10. 10 bucks for 11 ounces of beard wash is a steal!

This one bottle is probably going to last you well over a month and then some. That makes the cost perfect.

Also, Gillette is well-known, and you can find this product on the shelves of brick-and-mortar stores. It will be slightly more expensive (think 15 USD), but you won’t have to pay for shipping or worry about delivery times.

Common Consumer Complaints, Issues, and Positive Reviews

More than most products we have looked at, the King C Gillette Beard and Face Wash reviews extremely well. There are barely any negative or critical reviews of the product. There are a few things to note, though.

Positive Reviews

One of the primary positives most consumers note is the aroma. Many people like the pleasant mint and floral smell. Some specifically call it masculine, but I feel it is more gender-neutral. That’s just me, though. It also doesn’t overpower any other products you want to wear along with it.

The second positive I have seen is how it softens the beard. Most guys looking for a good beard wash know the value of ensuring your beard is soft and healthy, and this beard wash is the first step to making that happen.

More than a few consumers have noted the great lather this beard wash builds. Give it half a moment, and you can get a lather you almost can shave with. It’s thick enough to medicate your skin and get rid of nasty oils and dirt on your skin and hair.

Finally, many customers note that the bottle will last a long time. A little bit goes a long way, and at this low cost, you can get a bottle of beard wash that will last you over a month or maybe two months. You will get a good bang for your buck with this one.

Consumer Complaints

For all the positive points, there are a few negative ones as well.

As noted above, just as many people who like the aroma of the beard wash also find it off-putting. The Menthol is pretty heavy, and it can overpower the other scents. Also, the cologne floral scent that goes with it can be hit or miss with some consumers.

For some reason, many of these bottles seem to come without the pump or with the pump broken. I can sympathize somewhat. When this product arrived, it was wrapped in plastic in a cardboard box without padding. While the plastic bottle isn’t going to break, the pump itself is likely to snap if it gets jarred too hard.

Final Thoughts – Who is King C. Gillette Beard & Face Wash really for?

The million-dollar question!

Overall, I would say this is a great product for just about any guy who wants a basic beard and face wash for everyday or every other day use.

If you already have a beard wash that you are a fan of, there isn’t a reason to jump ship to this stuff. Unless you want to find a way to save money on a less expensive product. If you are, then King C Gillette might have you covered.

If you have sensitive skin, the Menthol, parabens, and sulfates might be an issue.
