Braun PowerCase Review – Worth Having Or Buying Separately?

holding Braun PowerCase with Series 9 Pro + inside

I first encountered the Braun PowerCase with the Braun Series 9 Pro (9477cc), which I used and reviewed back in 2022. It came with both the charging case and the CleanCare Center.

I liked the PowerCase a lot and found that it was well worth having it included in the bundle and paying a little extra for myself (and I stated it could be a good product for some others). I wrote about that in the S9 Pro review.

I then had to purchase a Braun Series 9 Pro+, the 95xx model number version, for using and reviewing as I needed to stay up to date with all the S9 generations or versions. I got a decent deal with a S9 Pro+ that came with the PowerCase, and I preferred having another case rather than another cleaning station.

Anyway, the point of this article was to cover a review of the case separately, as it can be bought separately for the S9, S9 Pro, S9 Pro+, and Series 8. I also wanted to start keeping the shaver pages focused on the actual shaver rather than accessories.

Features and Design

The case is like a power bank we can carry around that holds a charge for recharging devices on the go. It’s a bit more than that, though, as it’s useful for storing the shaver and protecting it–at home or away.

It is a little large, so keep this in mind, but I am fine with the size.

The outer coating is hard, but it has a leathery feeling and a soft coating (see photo below). I found it is better than just hard plastic.

The inside is solid and has various rubber elements, which keeps the shaver held in place inside and in comfort (see 1st photo below). The inside area also has a cool section that holds the cleaning brush (see 2nd photo below).

The power button is also inside, and it has three LED lights. The three lights count down how much charge is left in the case (not the shaver).

A small window on the front of the case is for viewing the shaver when it is on charge, displaying the LED charging segments on the shaver.

The LEDs were well thought out, as we are going to know what is going on with both the case and shaver in terms of charging and charge left.

The case takes me about 1.5 – 2 hours to fully charge (maybe less). I did not time this, so it is an approximate time (I do have a life outside of shaving, you know).

Additional Runtime

An important factor, and one that has proved to be somewhat confusing for some users and myself at first, is the amount of extra charge we get from the case.

I shared about this in the video (check it out below) and will not go through the various wording Braun states, as this one I will mention is the simplest.

A fully charged case will charge the shaver up to 50%. So, with my S9 Pro+, I usually gives 60 minutes of runtime, and after charging a flat shaver battery in the case, I get 30 minutes of runtime.

When I go on a trip, I can carry 90 minutes of runtime, which will give me enough shaves for 3 weeks or more. If I needed anything more than three weeks, unless I am on a desert island, I am sure I would just get the correct travel adapter to charge via the plug socket.

Im looking or expecting a boost of charge and not months of isolated shaving time without a plug socket in sight.

There are many variables there on how long a full shaver charge plus a full PowerCase charge will be provide. The above should give you an idea of what we are talking about.

I actually tested it out (that’s also on the video) and found Braun to be very accurate. I tested it with the Series 9 Pro+ and previously with the 9 Pro, and I will have to try it with the Series 8 when possible too.

Two Ways We Can Get A PoweCcase

The PowerCase can be bought as a separate product to go with your S9 or S8 shaver, or it can be bought in the bundle with one of the S9 Pro and S9 Pro+ models.

The PowerCase also comes with certain S9 Pro and S9 Pro+ models that start with numbers 94xx (S9 Pro) and 95xx (S9 Pro+).

Certain S9 models, which come with accessories and the PowerCase, can work out not costing much more than a standard version that may just come with a fabric travel case (especially true during sales like black Friday and the Amazon sale days). It all depends because prices between models and versions seem to change a lot.

As the case costs around $70 in the US and about the same in the UK (£70), it is not cheap. I have seen the price come down at times ($44 today on Amazon, which is a great price), and that might be the case (no pun intended) when you are reading this.

Final Thoughts – Verdict (Worth Buying?)

I really like the PowerCase, and I find that it is high-quality and solid. I can’t say how it could be improved, as the design is pretty much ideal. A bit more runtime might be useful, but then again, a boost of 30 minutes is enough while traveling.

I am happy to use it as a good solid storage case and storage while traveling, even without the extra charge. I have actually recharged it a couple of times at home inside the case rather than plugging it in a socket. I do travel and have used it a couple of times while traveling.

It’s going to be about the cost, really, isn’t it? Is it worth paying the extra for the PowerCase that comes with an S9 Pro or Pro+ shaver, or is the case alone–to go with an existing Braun shaver? The answer comes with a couple of depends–and it mostly depends on how much you will use the PowerCase.
