Braun Series 9 Pro + Head Shaving Experience – Its Pros and Cons

If you have never visited my website before, then you won’t be aware that I have used and reviewed probably the most head shavers on the net (at least reported and reviewed).

I have a lot of reviews you can check out on the Electric Head Shavers page, but for now, it’s all about my experience when head shaving with the Braun Series 9 Pro+.

I am also not new to head shaving with electric shavers that are designed for facial shaving. I’ve even head shaved with the S9, S9 Pro, and now the S9 Pro Plus.

I can safely say that if you purchase any of the models with numbers 94xx (Pro) or 95xx (Pro+), you are getting the same head shave, and the performance is identical.

You can check out the full review of the Series 9 Pro+ if you need anything about the features, performance while facial shaving, or anything else bar head shaving.

Head Shaving Experiences

It’s an absolutely fabulous shaver for head shaving in most ways. There are pros and cons, though, when comparing it with a dedicated head shaver!

When I assess a head shaver, I test how comfortable the blades are, ergonomics and holding the shaver, how close the shave is (result), and how close the shaver head and elements stay on the head over more difficult contours.

The rest, like runtime, LED’s, and cleaning, are secondary to the above. Shaving is what matters!

The Good News

The Series 9 Pro+ was mean on about four days of growth, and I could hear the blades cutting the hair–fast.

You might get a better idea of how it shaved in the video I created below.

It was a breeze when shaving daily or every two days and better. It was much quicker, as expected, with less growth.

A great feature is the blades stay very close to the scalp while going over the top of the head without any blade overlap (see photo below). Because the blades all flex or move independently, this also makes a difference, as I can choose the pressure I make while shaving, and the foil system and cutters respond well (see other photo below).

Shaving around the tricky ear areas was also done with ease with this shaver. That folding the ear down to get around the top section where hair gets left over was a doddle!

The end result is a closer shave than any other dedicated head shaver. It’s close to the same as a manual razor (i.e., cartridge razor or safety razor) and, in some parts, the same.

The Not So Good News

Where a dedicated electric shaver definitely wins is shaving the back of the head. Standard facial shavers just dont have the shape and ergonomics that head shavers have.

The Remington RX7 (Remington Balder Boss–USA) below is an example of the back of the head shaving.

Not having a rotary blade system also means I cannot rotate the shaver and can only shave in two directions. Dedicated head shavers are able to shave the back of the head more easily and quickly. However, this does not have to be an issue, really, as the other positive aspects of this shaver outweighed that.

I find I have to hold the head of the S9 Pro+ while shaving the back of the head area (see the next photo below), which is a little awkward. However, it’s not a deal breaker (based on other criteria).

The only other not-so-good thing is the cost. It’s blinking expensive, but that comes with a (However).

Sorry, there is one other thing, and that’s the warranty. Braun does not state this shaver can be used for head shaving–it’s a facial shaver. Now, if an issue occurs when head shaving and we report this to Braun, at a guess, we are not using the shaver for its intended purpose. I’m fine with that, as I am a bit of a bald-headed daredevil, but you might feel the same way and might be concerned about having warranty issues.

I would like to add that Braun recommends the cassette (foil section) be replaced every 18 months. That’s more than we get on the dedicated head shavers; however, I am not sure how long a cassette will last while head shaving (it could be less than 18 months–I am not sure).

Who Do I Recommend Buys and Tries It?

The main people I would recommend the Braun Series 9 Pro + for, are those with deep pockets (kidding). The main people would be those who facial shave and head shave (perfect).

Rather than have two shavers (facial and head shaver), these guys are going to get one of the best shavers money can buy that does both jobs very well.

I don’t find dedicated head shavers to be very good at both head and facial shaving (they are too awkward for this). The S9 Pro+ does this better!

Guys who use a dedicated head shaver and don’t mind the negatives I have mentioned above (plus dont mind parting with the cash)–could consider the S9 Pro+ –if they want the closest electric head shave they can get.

Well, that’s the wrap. Give me a shout in the comments if needed!
