Skull Shaver Pitbull Gold PRO Review – One Of The Best

Skull Shaver Pitbull Gold PRO on its box

The Skull Shaver Pitbull Gold PRO is the third in a line up of four men’s skull shavers made by the company Skull Shaver.

The first and cheapest skull shaver in the range is the Skull Shaver Palm, which I bought, tested, used, and reviewed recently. After that experience, I was looking forward to using and reviewing the Gold Pro (plus Silver and Platinum) models.

The skull shavers are primarily designed for guys to shave their heads and may also be used for facial shaving. The company promotes the shaver as a head and face shaver; however, does it shave as well on facial hair as standard electric shavers? Nope, is the short answer!

Many gents who are balding (like myself) really need an electric head shaver like this that can perform well and get the job done easily.

While the Skull Shaver Pitbull Gold PRO looks like the ideal shaver for many guys, it’s not cheap. So, it’s usually best to get a good perspective on the pros and cons of a shaver like this before chucking cash at it.

Let’s take a closer look at what the Pitbull Gold PRO should do for my balding bonce, how it performed after a month’s use (update: owned one since 2021), and who it would be best suited for.

You might be able to find some additional information in the YouTube video review I created for the Pitbull Gold Pro, and/or the visuals might help.

Description & Features

As mentioned, Skull Shaver has a patent on its design. While there are many head shavers on the market nowadays that look very similar to skull shavers, these are unique due to this patented design.

  • Handle/Body – The patented design of the body is one of this shaver’s main selling points. The main feature of the ergonomics is you can place your fingers in between the blades and handle, which makes shaving the curves of the head a lot easier. The shaver can also be held on both sides.
  • Detachable Blades – Four rotary blades are easily clipped on and off the shaver for replacing or cleaning. Skull shavers come with different blades for each model, and these ones are known as Forte PRO 4, which the company states are made from premium hypo-allergenic Japanese stainless steel. The inner section of the blade unit collects debris from shaving, which much be cleaned.
  • Cordless and corded operation – The integrated lithium-ion battery is charged up via the USB lead when plugged into the back of the shaver. The 1400 mAh battery should provide 90 minutes runtime and takes 2.5 hours to charge fully. Users can use the shaver while it is charging.
  • Battery life indicator – When a user switches on the shaver, an indicator shows the percentage of power left.
  • Wet and dry – The Skull Shaver Pitbull Gold PRO is water resistant and may be used for wet and dry shaving. Skull Shaver state that wet shaving provides a closer and better shave.
  • Accessories – The only accessory this shaver comes with apart from the USB lead is a small pouch, kind of travel bag or shaver protector.
  • Warranty – Buyers get a 12-month warranty which covers products purchased by the company’s official distributors. Buyers pay the shipping for returns, which many previous customers have complained about.

Head Shaving Experiences

As always, I was excited about receiving the shaver to test, use and review it. Especially any type of shaver or razor that makes head shaving easier, better, and more comfortable.

I made sure I used Skull Shaver Pitbull Gold Pro for a month to get used to using it. I have used similar head shavers, including the standard Skull Shaver Palm and Skull Shaver Silver Pro, so I had a good idea of how the Gold Pro would perform, but as it costs more than the Silver and Palm –I wanted to see if I got more.

Users can shave with Skull Shavers wet or dry, and as advised by the company, wet is best.

I tested out wet and dry and shower shaving!

wet shaving with the Skull Shaver Pitbull Gold PRO

Wet shaving with the Skull Shaver just feels better than dry, and it does prevent irritation, and I believe it protects or cares for the skin.

Three issues with wet shaving. First, it is much messier (shower cream or foam mess); second, it requires more time; and the third issue is once a person has shaved wet and notices bits of hair missed, the shaver has to be used wet with cream again otherwise the shaver judders.

The above three issues are not major, though –they just come with wet shaving with electric shavers in general. The best way to overcome this is to complete two passes (rinse off the shave cream/foam, reapply, and shave again).

And, in the shower……..?

I have used the Pitbull in the shower, but I use it with my head out of the shower, rinse, then reapply shave cream and rinse again under the shower. Really nice feeling and a better shave in the shower (well, with the head in and out).

How about dry shaving?

Dry shaving with the Pitbull Gold is extremely convenient, especially for the head. Users can run it over their heads in a few minutes every day or two, whenever and wherever.

Excellent travel shaving tool for balding guys.

Any irritation?

I have had no irritation on my head or face, but I do get some ‘slightly‘ on my neck. This is nothing new with my neck, which I have learned to work with.

Using shaving cream is best on my face; however, the Pitbull Gold likes my head more than my face, so I would stick to using a razor on my face and use this shaver for convenient and quick head shaving.

The Pitbull Gold likes my head more than my face so I would stick to using a razor on my face and use this shaver for convenient and quick head shaving.

Bottom Line – A great shave of convenience when shaving the head every 1 – 3 days. Of course, it’s not as close as a cartridge or safety razor shave, as expected.

Build Quality and Ergonomics

The ergonomics and design of the Skull Shaver Pitbull work very well in both modes of use, standard holding at the sides and the fingers cupped between the body and rotary blades head. It is unique compared to any other head shavers on the marker at the moment.

While everything is plastic, apart from the blades, it does feel solid, and mine is still in one piece.

Holding & Grip

Both methods of use are comfortable –assisted with the design of the shaver body and the option of cupping it in the hands.

I do find I end up using the standard mode of use more than placing it between the fingers; however, when I remember to use it in that way, it works great for the back of the head and the sides.

Ease of Use

I’ve covered the use of the Pitbull well enough. It doesn’t really need to get any easier to use; it’s very good.

Charging and Battery

When the Skull Shaver is first purchased, it’s charged up fully (100% on the indicator). The company states battery life lasts around 90 minutes.

A full charge of about 2 hours can last me about 3 or 4 weeks when used frequently, which is very good.

Unfortunately, because of the number of shavers, razors, and other products I use and review, I cannot measure the longevity of certain aspects of a shaver, including battery life. Longevity is naturally always an issue with rechargeable batteries.

Cleaning and Maintenance

Cleaning up the shaver and its head is easy enough; it all comes apart easily. Most of the shaving debris is collected inside the shaver head that comes apart.

Blades would need to be replaced every 3 – 6 months. However, a user may need to replace them more often if they use the shaver often and vice versa if it’s not used so frequently.

Value for Money

At the moment, the Skull Shaver Pitbull Gold Pro is fairly priced in the US at $99.99; however, in the UK it costs £114.99, and in the EU €119.99.

It’s more expensive outside the US for obvious reasons of shipping costs. My thoughts are, it’s a bit on the expensive side outside of the US.

The blade replacements are also quite pricey. The Forte Pro 4 replacement blades cost $34.99.

Final Thoughts – Who is it Best For?

There is a lot to love about the Pitbull Gold Pro, and it’s very easy to use for head shaving. It does do its job on the face, although it’s not razor-close and a little awkward because of the designated head shaver design.

Longevity is the biggest concern.

As a first-time buyer, I would (and I did) try out the Skull Shaver Palm (cheapest standard model), and if you are sold on Skull Shavers, then upgrade. This will save you cash if all doesn’t go so well, and if it does –you can still use both and have two sets of blades.

For many balding gents, Skull Shavers are the best answer to shaving their bonce quickly and conveniently, with ease.

If it’s a must that you need to shave your face extremely well and close with an electric shaver, then you may need to look at other shavers. A rotary shaver like the Philips Norelco S9000 Prestige is a very good facial shaver option with the ability to head shave very well, too (not cheap, though).

After using and testing all the Skull Shavers, I found the Pitbull Gold Pro to be the best model based on the balance of a good product and cost.

I watched a youtube Shaving Advisor video recommending the Skull Shaver Pitbull Pro Gold

So i bought a Remington RX5 it lasted 3 weeks.

I should have taken Jasons good advice.

Anyway I bought the Skull Shaver Pitbull Pro Gold.

The build quality is much better a premium feel, using it is very easy, the blades fit against the head, the shave is comfortable and close, money well spent.
