Braun Body Groomer Series 7 Review: Does It Beat the Competition?
If you’re considering a body groomer that offers dual functionality—not just trimming, but also a close shave—then the Braun Body Groomer Series 7 (BG7) is absolutely worth considering.
I’ve previously covered competitors like the Philips BodyGroom 7000 Series and the Manscaped Lawn Mower Ultra 5.0. These also trim and shave!
The reason I mention models that trim and shave is that many body groomers on the market only handle the trimming side of things.
In this in-depth review, I’m going to share my personal experience and views on the Braun Series 7 (BG7), covering its design, features, trimming and shaving performance, plus how it handles the more intimate and sensitive areas.
Availability (USA): I’m not yet seeing the BG7 groomers available in the USA (as yet), unfortunately. They might become more available in the US pretty soon.
Description & Features
The Series 7 is designed to trim and shave from the neck down, including the more sensitive areas like the groin, pubic, and scrotum area.
The specific model I used for this review is the BG7555. Other models start with BG75, and the primary differences between them simply come down to the accessories they include. The BG7555 is the bundle that comes with the most attachments.

Here’s a breakdown of the unboxed components I got:
- Trimmer Head: The primary cutting/trimming tool.
- Shaver Head: A foil shaver designed for a close, body-safe shave.
- Three Standard Trimming Combs: A 2mm, 3mm, and 5mm comb for precise length control.
- Body Comb Attachment: This provides a very short, non-specific length for intimate body trimming.
- Shaver Head Protective Comb: A unique attachment that fits over the shaver head to guard against the side trimmers—a feature I found incredibly useful (more on this later).
- Shower Cord/Handle: A handy accessory that plugs into the charging port so you can hang the groomer up while in the shower.
- Toiletry Bag: A fabric bag with internal waterproofing, great for storage and travel.
- Cleaning Brush: For routine dry cleaning.
- Cable and Plug: The power cable and plug are not USB type. The two-prong plug is designed for a bathroom socket (UK buyers will need an adaptor).
Design, Build Quality & Ergonomics
The groomer feels quite light, weighing around 130 grams, and is primarily plastic. I personally tend to prefer products with a bit more weight, as it gives a perception of durability and being heavy-duty, but many people will appreciate the lighter design.
Build Quality & Ergonomics Ratings
Although it is lightweight, it feels solid enough.

The body features a slight curve where your forefinger naturally rests, and the head section has a fairly slim width (see next video clip). These features make it easy to maneuver the trimmer around more tricky areas like the underarms and the groin.
It has rubberized grip sections (see next video clip) on the back and underneath, ensuring a solid, non-slip feel in the hand, even when wet, which I am happy with.
Trimmer & Shaver Heads
The trimmer blade is around 34 mm wide, which is less in width than most beard trimmers and some other multi-tool trimmers. However, the smaller width of this makes sense to me because of needing to trim trickier areas, especially down below.
Trimmer Blade & Combs Ratings

Braun states the trimmer blades have SkinGuard technology to minimize nicks and cuts. I have no idea what I should be looking for to witness that technology, so I shall just take it as they have tried to make the blades protective.
Unlike the Manscaped Body Groomers, the blades on this do not have a ceramic inner blade. This ceramic aspect is something I believe and have experienced that makes the blades more protective, especially when trimming the nuts. However, this Braun has something I think is better (or more protective) for the more sensitive areas — the protective comb attachment.
The shaver foil is intentionally larger than a standard facial foil shaver to cover more body area. Like its competitors, it features a trimmer blade on each side of the foil to help capture longer hairs before they hit the foil, and can be used bidirectionally.

A difference I noticed with the Braun is that the shaver head is stationary. On the Philips Bodygroom 7000 and Manscaped 5.0 Ultra, the head or cassette flexes (i.e., moves back and forth) to follow body contours. This stationary design is a slight negative for the Braun, but that feature only matters when shaving back and forth, and I don’t consider it a deal-breaking feature.
The foil cassette inside the shaver head can be removed easily (see next video clip). Perhaps too easily—I found that it came out accidentally a few times during use, mostly when removing the sensitive protective comb.
Removing and replacing the shaver or trimmer head is unique as shown in teh next video clip below. They easily slot inside the groomer and slide out with ease, and are easier than most other groomers I have used and reviewed.
Combs and Attachments
The three (2mm, 3mm, and 5mm) comb sizes, plus the body comb, give me enough options for keeping the body hair a little longer if required, and then the body comb or no comb (not on the scrotum) for a very short trim.
These are all numbered, and the body comb has text (see next video clip), but they are a very light gray and can be hard to see (for my eyes anyway). Using a different, darker color for the numbers and text would be useful.
Braun does not provide a size for the body comb. However, in my experience, I would say it is about 2mm, but it has additional protection on the front, which differs compared to the other combs. This is useful for the more intimate areas because of its additional protection.
I find these combs slide easily on and off the trimmer as shown in the next clip.
The Sensitive shave comb attachment is a super useful feature and attachment in my view and experience. I have not found anything as good at protecting my scrotum area as this. This comb provides guards on the two trimmer blades that the shaver head has, and as I have found with other body groomers, these trimmer blades did tug hairs, until this handy comb came to the rescue.
The Sensitive shave comb (see next video clip) is also an attachment that is easy to attach and detach, like all other components of this groomer.
Within the documentation, Braun adds (for beginners ) next to the Sensitive shave comb diagram, which indicates that some of you may be able to start using the shaver head without this comb at some point. However, I have used it with this comb numerous times (for the crown jewels) and have no reason to attempt to risk cuts, nicks, or pulls anymore by shaving without it. Another, however, when shaving other areas than the scrotum, I dont have to use the Sensitive shave comb.
LED Spotlight and Travel Lock
Just like the Manscaped body groomers, the BG75 also has a spotlight (named SmartLight). When switched on, a light illuminates the area right in front of the head section. This is extremely useful for seeing what we’re doing, particularly in more intimate areas. My only wish is that it had a second light on the other side, but it’s a useful feature overall.

Holding the power button for about 3 seconds activates a useful travel lock (indicated by an orange flashing light), preventing accidental power-on in your bag. Hold it again for 3 seconds to unlock.
Battery Life, Charging, and LED Indicators
I got around 100 minutes of run time per charge. This is essential, as grooming larger areas (or just taking your time in intimate areas) takes longer than a quick facial trim and shave. 100 minutes is quite generous.

There is a useful 5-minute boost feature if the battery runs flat mid-job, letting us finish up without waiting hours for a full charge.
Braun states it takes around 1.5 hours to fully charge the groomer, which is about right in my experience (without clock watching it).
Simple, three-segment lights show the remaining power the battery has. They flash when the charge is low, which is practical and useful enough, though it lacks a percentage indicator.
We get a Braun proprietary power cable with a plug attached. There is no USB option. If you are in the UK, keep in mind that the plug is a two-pin shaver type, and you might require an adapter to convert it.
Cleaning and Maintenance
Proper cleaning is essential for the longevity and performance of any body groomer, and the S7 is easy enough to clean.
Here is my routine:
Dry Cleaning (Most of the Time): For routine maintenance, I simply dry-clean it a few times. This involves:
- Popping off the attachment or the head.
- I use the cleaning brush to sweep out hair from the components and the inner head section of the handle. I remove the majority of hair cuttings when blowing with my mouth.
- Do not use the brush directly on the shaver head foil, as this could cause damage. Just give the foil cassette a gentle blow-out.
Wet Cleaning (Every Few Trims): After every three or four uses, I give the groomer a deep clean under running water with a few drops of antibacterial soap.
- Trimmer Blade: Put a few blobs of soap on the blade and rinse with water.
- Shaver Head: Put soap and a few drops of water on the foil, then turn the shaver on to let it self-cleanse.
- Rinse everything with clean water, shake out the excess, and let it air dry completely.
Here’s a video clip of my routine:
The only issue I ran into while cleaning is that the inner head section can be quite tricky to clean out properly. Some of the hair is going down inside the trimmer as it has gaps created for the trimmer and shaver attachment to slot into. Hair going inside and near the motor cannot be a good thing.
After wet cleaning (or if you use it wet), it’s advisable to put a couple of drops of oil on the shaver cassette and the trimmer blade to maintain their condition. Even when dry-cleaning, I’d apply oil about every third or fourth time I plan to use it.
When oiling the trimmer (see next video clip), I add a couple of drops on the trimmer and a couple of drops on the foil cassette and power the trimmer on for a few seconds for both attachments. I remove excess oil with a tissue — only dabbing it gently!
Shaver Cassette and Trimmer Blade Longevity and Replacements?
I couldn’t find any information in the product documentation or on the Braun website regarding the lifespan or replacement part number for the cassette or trimmer. For the Philips and Manscaped devices, they advise replacing the cassette after about 12 months. Given the lack of information, I’d assume a similar 12-month lifespan for the Braun, but this really should be documented for the user.
I contacted Braun about the cassette and trimmer blade longevity and part number, and here is the response:
The lifespan of your Braun shaver foil and cutter can last up to 18 months, depending on several factors, including your shaving method, beard type, and density, as well as the cleaning and maintenance of the foil and cutter cassette.
To find the replacement part numbers and links for the shaver head and trimmer head of your Braun shaver type 2526, I recommend visiting the following resources:
Braun Service Website: You can find the correct foil and cutter block for your shaver by visiting

– Encompass Supply Chain Solutions: You can order Braun replacement parts directly from our distributor.
They can be reached by phone at 866.779.5301 or online at braun.encompass.com
Unfortunately, the specific part numbers for the type 2526 are not included in the current resources. However, the links provided will guide you to the appropriate sections where you can find the necessary information for your shaver model. If you have any further questions or need additional assistance, please feel free to reach out.
Thanks, and regards,

Braun Consumer Relations
I am still not happy with this response, as it does not answer the question of the trimmer blade longevity, among other dubious advice or lack of advice within that email. I will update this once I can get a more satisfactory response.
At least we know (according to Kiriaki) the cassette can last up to 18 months.
Important: The cassette and trimmer replacement availability is likely to be temporary. I have seen this before when a product is fairly new on the market, like this device. Im saying this so you dont just dismiss considering purchasing one based on this current issue (it has too much other good stuff about it).
Warranty
Braun offers a 2-year warranty, which can also be extended when registering the groomer with them for up to a generous 5 years. That beats the Manscaped underwhelming 90-day warranty and matches what Philips (Norelco) offers.
Additional Accessories
While the toiletry-type zipper pouch is not much of a travel case with a hard case, I like it a lot. I can fit all components inside that a lot of travel cases cannot, and it has a waterproof lining.
The BG7 comes with a handy accessory (Shower Cord) that plugs into the charging port so you can hang the groomer up while in the shower. I tried it, but have no real use for it as I dont use the bodygrommer in the shower. I do really like how they have designed it to cover the charging port, which could potentially prevent water from leaking inside.

Noise Level
Yes, it is a pretty loud device and kind of sounds rattly. You aren’t going to be able to sneak into the bathroom for a quick midnight trim without someone from the household wondering what you are doing behind that door.
Waterproof – Wet Trimming/Shaving
Braun’s documentation or website specs does not provide any waterproof rating. However, it is fully waterproof.
I don’t use a trimmer or shaver in the shower and haven’t tried the BG7, but if you need a trimmer for water use, this is suitable.
Being waterproof means we can clean it easily with warm water after using it, which I covered in a previous section of this review.
Body Grooming Experiences
Now, for the really important part – how it performs is where it matters most. I used it on my chest, underarms, abdomen, pubic area, and groin, and used it multiple times on the family jewels.
For obvious reasons, I cannot share any visuals on the more private areas, but I can tell you all about my experiences.
Chest, Underarms, and Abdomen
I used the 5mm comb and then the body comb on my chest and underarm hair first, just for testing purposes. The trim was quick and resulted in a nice, even reduction in length.
Chest & Abdomen Trimming Ratings
Here are a few clips to help you see how it trims…….
I have also used the trimmer head without a comb to take it down even shorter before using the shaver head. This gets it just that bit closer than the body comb!
Note: Braun does not recommend using the trimmer head without a comb for the private areas. I agree, and I am glad that shows that in the documentation, as this is, in my experience, definitely Nick and Cut’s territory.
- Chest & Abdomen: The shaver trimmer ends did a good job of picking up longer, missed hairs very well without pulling or tugging. While most of the chest area was very close, it wasn’t perfectly “razor-close” all over; I still felt some slight stubble patches that required me to go over it again. This is standard for electric body shavers in my experience, but the speed and general closeness were great. The abdomen, as expected, because of the finer hair, was very easy to trim (and shave).
- Underarms: The grooming was quick and efficient here. However, I did experience some slight stinging, which I also had with the Manscaped Ultra and other shavers. I often prefer to just trim very short in the armpit area rather than fully shave. A major benefit here was that the side trimmer blades on the shaver head were useful for catching a few hairs that the trimmer comb found difficult to reach.
Underarms Trimming/Shaving Ratings
Here’s a clip to help you see how it shaves…….
Although the trimmer and shaver heads are not that wide, indicating they may not trim or shave a large area quickly enough, that was not the case. I have used other trimmers and even wide-bladed Remington hair clippers that can trim larger areas like the chest quickly; however, they lack in other aspects that the BG7 has, making it a good all-rounder multi-body-grooming tool.
The Intimate Area: Shaving Down Below
This is the area where I found the Braun Series 7 BG7 truly shines compared to its rivals.
My personal preference is to trim the pubic area, not fully shave it, using the 5mm or the 2mm combs. Im fine with as close as possible on the nuts, but for the pubic area — ‘nice and short is my preference’.
Groin, Pubic Area, and Family Jewels Trimming Ratings
The small head section of the device worked perfectly for moving the areas between the groin and the nuts. Other brands like the Manscaped and Philips are also very good with maneuverability around this area.
However, when I tested the full shave “down below,” the Shaver Head Protective Comb proved to be an absolute legend. Most trimmers require extreme caution and patience to avoid nicks, cuts, or painful hair pulls. With this comb attachment on the shaver head, I felt protected. I could simply go at it without the usual nerve-wracking anxiety.
- The Close Shave: The protective comb allowed for an excellent, close shave. It’s not going to beat a traditional multi-blade razor with shaving cream in the shower. Still, for those who want an electric-style shave down there, this is the best I’ve used so far (especially in terms of safety).
- Post-Shave Experience: I did notice a slight stubble about 15 minutes after the first pass, requiring a quick go-over. You may also feel a slight stinging post-shower, which simply indicates a close shave. Over time, you won’t experience this. To manage the inevitable itching that comes a day or two later, I found that doing a quick re-shave every two days helped keep the issue under control.
Cost
Currently*, the BG7555 (the priced model) costs just under £100 (€90 – cheaper in the EU). The other models are cheaper and can be picked up for around £50 – £60 (€50 – €60).
Value for Money Ratings
The top-end model with all the accessories is slightly pricey — around the same price as its competing body trimmer and shavers.
£80 (€80) would be the ideal, well-worth-it price, and you might be able to buy one at that price at the right time from the right store.
*Prices are always changing. I am just giving you a current price to use as a guide.
Final Thoughts – Verdict (Who’s It For?)
If you want an electric solution that both trims and shaves across your body, the Braun Series 7 (BG7) is one of the better options I’ve used.
It’s especially good if you want a safer electric approach to intimate area grooming, thanks to the protective comb that comes with the shaver cassette. For general chest, abdomen, and underarm work, it’s fast and practical.
If your priority is an absolutely razor-close finish and you’re comfortable with wet shaving, nothing beats a manual razor after trimming. But for guys who prefer an all-electric workflow or need a safe, fast way to shave intimate areas without constant fear of nicks, the Braun is a solid choice.
I’m not trying to hard-sell this: it’s not perfect, but it’s versatile, thoughtfully designed in places, and a real contender alongside the Philips Norelco Bodygroom 7000 and the Manscaped Lawnmower Ultra 5.0 I’ve tested and reviewed.
So, to answer the title question — Does it Beat the Competition? In quite a few areas, it does, and absolutely for the intimate areas, it’s the best so far for me!

Thanks for the detailed review! Keep up the good work.
How does this Braun Series 7 foil shaver compare against the Phillips Bodygroom 7000’s foil? You mention that the head or foil don’t move, though I have found with the Phillips it simply rips the hair out and leaves irritation for days. I am not sure if I have a bad one and should try a replacement cartridge, I am just looking for a useable foil shaver.
