Manscaped Lawn Mower 4.0 Pro Review – Great Below The Belt and Above
Despite the Manscaped Lawn Mower Pro 4.0 being a relatively small trimmer, it does a great job of trimming from my neck down to my nether regions.
I don’t praise that many products highly, but this one, with its no-nicks-and-cuts performance, especially down below, gets a big thumbs up from me.
Of course, it’s not going to be right for everyone, and other options may be best suited.
However………
You (we) always need the full picture!
In this article, I’m going to share what I like and what I don’t like so much about the design and features of this trimmer, and also share my experiences when trimming my chest, armpits, abdomen, and pubic area to the crown jewels.

Description & Features
The Lawn Mower 4.0 Pro belongs to the groin and body trimmer category of Manscaped grooming tools. However, when we look at the manual and the website, we can clearly see that these guys are primarily going for the balls (without an ouch, you hope, right!).
In the kit I purchased, I received the trimmer, two adjustable attachment combs, a small cleaning brush, a Type-C USB cord, and an adapter.

This model comes with a travel case (the Lawn Mower 3.0 Plus does not). I quite like this travel case; it has a kind of hard outer casing. We can pop the trimmer inside, and it features a band that helps hold the trimmer securely in place. There’s a small zip section where it can store all the essentials (i.e., cord, adapter, combs, etc.).

The detailed manual provides clear instructions and features numerous pictures. Details like this show me the added effort that the company put into the product (of course, we need more than just a good mini manual).
That 90-day warranty period is pretty tight, isn’t it? Twelve months would be more generous and in line with other men’s grooming companies!
Manscaped states:
*SkinSafe® technology does not guarantee cut protection.
I am glad to see these guys being honest, as many companies over-inflate what their products can do (we are all familiar with the marketing hype). That being said, no cuts or nicks from me thus far!
Design, Build, and Ergonomics
It has a slightly curved, banana-like shape. I found that the curved shape is very useful for certain areas, such as the groin area between the scrotum and the legs or the armpits. It can be used in a scooped manner (if that makes sense).
Build Quality & Ergonomics Ratings
A good part of the outer section features a matte coating finish, which is beneficial for gripping and holding it. However, I prefer the 3.0 Plus (see video clip below for comparison) because it’s rubberized and has embossed sections on the sides to enhance grip.
The trimmer has a little weight to it, and I kind of like weighted trimmers and shavers; it makes me feel like I’m getting something of a higher quality.
The spotlight on the trimmer is really useful, especially for shaving sensitive areas (like the private parts). It is activated by an additional button located below the power button when the trimmer is turned on.
The additional button for the spotlight also activates the handy travel lock when pressed and held with the trimmer switched off. We deactivate it by holding the button pressed for a few seconds.
Trimmer Blades and Combs
The trimmer blade is only 35mm (1.25in) wide, which is quite slim compared to other non-groin shaving trimmers; however, this makes sense given the type of shaving area below. We need something a bit slimmer and more nifty for navigating the more awkward areas, and a smaller width works best for me.
Trimmer Blade & Combs Ratings
The smaller width is not great for shaving larger areas like the chest and legs, but as you’ll see below, I share that it still gets the job done well and quickly enough.
The skin-safe technology mentioned on the Manscaped sales page refers to the inner blade section of the trimmer being made from ceramic, which protects against nicks and cuts. That has actually been my experience, and I have not had any nicks or cuts, unlike what I have experienced before with double stainless steel trimmer blades.

Manscaped is transparent about its SkinSafe technology, stating that while the ceramic blade is designed for safety, it doesn’t guarantee zero nicks or cuts. However, in my experience, it has lived up to its promise.
The blade section is super easy to remove and attach. All you need to do is push on the top section with your thumb, pop the blade out, and when you’re ready to reattach it, just slide it back in and snap the top into place. Simple as that.
We get two adjustable trimmer combs with the 4.0 Pro. One gives us sizes 2, 4, and 6mm, and the other 8, 10, and 12mm. For me, that range works well, but I generally only use 3 or 4 mm and combless.
The combs are easy to slide on and off—we simply slide them on, choose the desired length, and then slide them off again when we’re done.
I wish the guards had a numbering system on them, though, so we could see which setting we have it on. However, we know it is on the lowest setting when it is close to the blade. Then, slide it to the next setting (e.g., 2mm – 6mm), which is 4mm, and fully slide it to 6mm if needed.
Battery, Charging, and Runtime
The 4.0 Pro provides a runtime of approximately 60 minutes on a full charge. It also offers a quick charge option, although I haven’t needed to use it yet.

I find the segmented indicator light to be a useful feature, as it clearly shows the remaining battery life.
After approximately 60 minutes of trimming the groin plus family jewels (twice), chest, and abdomen area, the segmented section started flashing, telling me to recharge the battery. In my experience, the 60 minutes is accurate!
The power or speed of the trimmer remained the same, even just before the trimmer needed charging and the battery went flat. This is because of the constant RPM feature. It does not slow down at all, and this constant speed prevents nicks and hair tugging.
An interesting addition is the wireless charging capability. While I haven’t tested this due to not having a wireless charger readily available, it’s a convenient option for those who do.
I’ve trimmed my chest and groin area to around 4mm and found that’s my preferred length. The results have been good, apart from the fact that it takes much longer to trim the larger areas with a comb attached than just using the trimmer blade (without a comb attached).
Cleaning and Maintenance
Cleaning is straightforward. Manscaped states that the device is fully washable, and following their recommendation of a quick wash and air dry has been simple and effective.
I add a blob of antibacterial hand soap to the blade before washing it to ensure it is more hygienically clean.
Manscaped states we do not need to oil the blades, and I have not with 4.0 Pro (I did at first with the 3.0 Plus), despite feeling the urge to. I held back, as I wasn’t sure if oiling would harm the ceramic.
Blade Replacement & Subscription
Manscaped recommends replacing the blades every 3 to 6 months, depending on usage. I aim to do this every 12 months and take good care of the blade.
Manscaped states:
We recommend replacing your blade regularly to keep it sharp for maximum performance.
On average, we see that changing out your blade every 3–6 months helps maintain peak hygiene and performance. Of course, your replacement cycle will depend on your frequency of use and your specific grooming needs.
Trimming Experiences
I was not new to body grooming and trimming with Manscaped trimmers, as I had previously used and reviewed the Lawn Mower 3.0 Plus. In terms of main features, both are the same (i.e., blades, combs, motor, etc.), so I did not expect any performance differences.
Chest and Abdomen
Grooming the chest proved to be easy enough, and even without a wider trimmer head for efficiency, the process was quite comfortable and didn’t take much time.
Moving to the abdomen, the noticeably softer hair compared to the chest and groin made trimming exceptionally easy.
A wider blade trimmer is quicker that I use, but that trimmer does not shave the lower regions anywhere near as well. There have to be trade-offs, I guess.
Chest & Abdomen Trimming Ratings
Armpits
Being a small area, the armpits were simple to trim, as expected. The curved design on the top and bottom of the trimmer head proved particularly useful for effectively scooping and trimming the contours of my armpits.
Now, I am sure a few of you are asking—what about the nether regions?

Groin, Pubic Area, and Family Jewels
Of course, no video clip of me shaving down at the nether regions is making it on here, mate.
I can share my experiences, though!
Groin, Pubic Area, and Family Jewels Trimming Ratings
The small size of the trimmer’s blade and body proved ideal for navigating the nooks and crannies of my groin and the tricky space between the scrotum and leg.
The pubic area was easily managed with and without the 4mm comb. But the real win was trimming the family jewels without a single nick! Given my history with cuts in that region, I have been really pleased with both the 3.0 Plus and this 4.0 Pro (it’s what has sold me on them).
Trimming against the grain, as expected, took a little patience. I had to keep following against the grain; otherwise, the hair would not get picked up by the trimmer. If you can be patient, as I have, you’ll get along fine; however, if you’re in a rush, you might dislike this aspect.
The spotlight is ideal for seeing exactly what I am doing around the gonads.
I found this tool is perfectly sized and designed for the below-the-belt manscaping job. Color me impressed, especially when it comes to that sensitive area!
Value for Money
Currently, the Manscaped Lawn Mower 4.0 is Pro priced at $90 in the US, £85 in the UK, and €95 in Europe.
Value for Money Ratings
Although this is a significant investment, the trimmer performs exceptionally well. I haven’t yet found a cheaper alternative that offers the same level of performance that I want, apart from the 3.0 Plus (costs about 20% less).
The replacement blades also come at a cost, around $20, £25, or €28, which is also on the pricier side. However, I’m comfortable with this price if the blades genuinely last around 12 months.
A subscription for replacements (hygienic plan) every three months, though, would definitely not be something I’d consider.
Final Thoughts – Verdict (Worth Buying?)
It’s the same trimmer as the Manscaped Lawn Mower 3.0 Plus with the additional travel case, travel lock, inductive wireless charging compatibility, and quick charge feature. So, if you don’t want or need these additional features and want to save 20%, consider the 3.0 Plus.
I do get along better with the Manscaped 4.0 Pro Plus trimming all areas (overall) than I do with the Philips Bodygroom 3000 Series, 5000 Series, and even the Bodygroom 7000 Series. Those have other better functions, but definitely not as good as below-the-belt stuff for me.
If I weren’t running the ShavingAdvisor website and YouTube channel, I’d happily stick with this tool. I wouldn’t feel the need to try anything else for quite some time – likely until it stopped working eventually.
However, because I do run ShavingAdvisor, I’ll be continuously using, testing, and reviewing more trimmers specifically designed for the groin area, so keep an eye out for the links below for those new reviews.
Please feel free to leave a comment below if there’s anything I haven’t covered or if you have your own experiences with the Lawn Mower 4.0 Pro to share.
