Philips Norelco Bodygroom 5000 vs 7000 Series – Which is Best?
The last manscaping session I had with a body groomer device was the Philips Norelco Bodygroom 7000, and previous to that –the Philips Norelco Bodygroom 5000 Series.
It made sense after using both groomers to compare their differences and similarities while recommending which one is best suited for whom.
If a buyer were looking for the one that could body trim and shave best without considering costs, I would point the buyer to the Series 7000-it’s a no-brainer. However, there are reasons to consider the Series 5000, which you’ll find out further along.
Both body groomers aim to do the same tasks –trimming and shaving anywhere below the neck.
Basic Description & Features – Series 7000
The biggest difference between these two body groomers is the 7000 Series has double ends. One end does all the various trimming lengths, and the other does the shaving.
- Waterproof: The 7000 series is fully waterproof, and according to Philips, the groomer can be used in the shower.
- 4 D: The head pivots back and forth and left and right to enable the device to shave along various contours more easily.
- Shaver & Trimmer: The shaver head ‘cassette’ has a large foil section for shaving and two trimmer blades at the top and bottom for trimming. The other end has a trimmer with various settings.
- Trimmer Comb: The 7000 Series has one integrated comb attachment with 5 settings (3, 5, 7, 9, 11mm).
- Cordless: The rechargeable body groomer has a Li-ion battery that requires 1 hour for a complete charge, delivering 80 minutes of trimming and shaving functionality.
- LED Indicators: The simple indicator lights indicate when it is charging and when the charge is very low.
- Warranty: The standard warranty is for 2 years.
Basic Description & Features – Series 5000
Like the 7000 Series, the device can trim and shave below the neck. However, it only utilizes one end (head), and the head has to trim and shave, while three trimmer combs have to be attached for various-length trimming.
- Waterproof: The 5000 series is fully waterproof, and according to Philips, the groomer can be used in the shower.
- Two Directional: The design, double trimmer blades, and double-sided comb attachments enable the groomer to be used with forward and backward strokes.
- Shaver & Trimmer: The shaver head ‘cassette’ has a large foil section for shaving and two trimmer blades at the top and bottom for trimming.
- Trimmer Combs: The 5000 Series kit includes three body trimming combs – 3-5-7 mm.
- Cordless: The body groomer is rechargeable and can only be used when unattached from a power source. The Li-ion battery takes 1 hour to charge fully and provides 60 minutes of trimming and shaving time.
- LED Indicators: The indicator lights indicate when it is charging and when the charge is very low.
- Warranty: The standard warranty is for 2 years.
What Makes the Series 7000 More Expensive?
As the Philips Norelco Bodygroom 7000 is the higher priced and a higher range model, it makes sense to highlight what a buyer additionally gets compared to the Series 5000.
I have mentioned the dual-ended shaver and trimmer, which is an obvious advantage. In addition, this means we get a better quality trimmer and the ability to change the trimming lengths with the integrated settings (3, 5, 7, 9, 11mm). The Series 5000 has three attachment combs that come with the device (3-5-7 mm), which might be enough for some guys.
The shaver head of the Series 7000 also moves in four directions, which helps while shaving various contours. The Series 5000 has a static head.
The Series 7000 feels more solid and has a better modern look, although looks don’t count for much when you’re shaving or trimming under your gonads.
We get 80 minutes of cordless runtime with the Series 7000, while the Series 5000 provides 60 minutes. Both only take an hour to recharge fully.
Series 5000 vs 7000 Trimming and Shaving
I had some interesting and lengthy manscaping sessions with both body groomers. The Series 7000 was even allowed to try out some leg trimming.
Both shaved similarly and gave the same results, although the Series 7000 head movement made some difference. Shaving the chest, which is a large area, takes some time with the shaver and leaves some stubble areas. Shaving the family jewels was not a good idea, as expected; both caught my skin somewhat (many guys state they don’t have this problem).
Trimming was easily more efficient and better with the Series 7000 with its separate trimmer and integrated settings. However, I found the trimmer head cutter width very slim when trimming larger areas like the chest and legs, which makes the task take longer than I would like.
I found the smaller head width and body of the Series 5000 more advantageous when trimming around tricky areas like between the legs (groin).
If you need to shave hair on your back, then the Series 5000 comes with an attachable back reach, which is extremely useful. Despite the back reach being an accessory that can be bought separately, it does not fit the Series 7000.
Price Difference
The cost naturally jumps up from the 5000 to the Series 7000.
- Series 5000: $49.99 US, UK – £49.00, and EU – €49.49
- Series 7000: $69.99 US, UK – £79.00, and EU – €69.49
Final Thoughts — Which Is Best?
Despite the Philips Norelco Bodygroom 7000 overall having better features, the main difference between these is the trimmer head, and a question to ask yourselves is –Do you need the better quality trimmer head?
Most guys will be using the trimmer, and the best out of these is the 7000. However, the Series 5000 will also trim well enough, so if you need to save cash, then the 5000 could be the manscaping device for you.
The main gripe I had with the Series 7000 trimmer was the slim width, which made it hard to cover large areas. I cover more about that in its review.
