Philips Norelco MultiGroom 7000 MG7750 Review – A Mighty Fine Groomer

The Philips Norelco Multigroom MG7750 on its presentation box

While I am not a big fan of grooming devices marketed to do multiple tasks, the multi-groomers from Philips, including the Philips Norelco MultiGroom MG7750, caught my eye.

The reason I am not a big fan of shaving or grooming devices that are marketed to do multiple tasks is because they usually end up doing one task well and the others poorly–or definitely below the standard of a dedicated device for that specific grooming task.

Anyway, I have to approach these devices with an open mind, and many Philips Norelco Multigroom 7000 users love this machine. Plus, I just love a new tool to play with and test anyway!

I own, and I have tested out as many of the multi-groom options my body would allow based on my personal hair circumstances.

In this multitool product review, we will take a look at the all-important features of the Multigroom 7000 Series MG7750, how it performs in terms of trimming from the head down, highlight the pros and cons, and within the final thoughts –suggest who the groomer is best suited for.

Description & Features

When unboxing the Multigroom 7000 Series MG7750–a load of bits and bobs just fell out. There are a lot of attachments that come with it!

Unboxed, we get the trimmer, charger, fabric storage pouch, small cleaning brush, and 19 attachments/combs (now you know why bits and bobs fall out of the box).

More About The Features — Pros and Cons

I will provide more details about the main functions of the multi-groomer and highlight their usefulness and advantages or disadvantages.

You will need to use the instruction leaflet, which does cover everything needed.

Build Quality

After unboxing it, I noticed the attractive stainless steel body, which felt solid. For some reason, I just feel like I am getting a better bang for my buck when I get something solid like this rather than a light plastic casing.

A thumbs up to the build quality department.

Body, Ergonomics & Grip

The body of the MultiGroom does not have much going on in terms of curves for its ergonomics, which could seem a disadvantage. However, from the bottom to the top, the body slims down, and the top section opens up, making it a very practical design.

A more curved body design that fits snugly in hand might be good ergonomically for one task but not for others, which could be a hindrance, so I would say this design is ideal.

The top section around the power button is rubberized for grip, and around the top metal section is engraved. The thumb fits perfectly on the rubber section when the trimmer is used.

Some gents might prefer a trimmer body that is rubberized more than the MG7750 if they have trouble with grooming devices and electric shavers slipping.

I have had no problems handling this groomer and have always found it easy and practical enough.

Trimmer Blades

As this is a multiroom tool, it does not come with just one trimmer blade like most trimmers, but three. You will need to look at the small instruction leaflet–you get with the trimmer–to get an idea of what blade does what and all the guards.

Standard Trimmer Blade

The blades seemed sharp enough when I was using them, and it is useful that they’re self-sharpening.

The interchangeable blades are easy enough to remove and replace and almost feel too easy to take off- like they could come off when not needing to remove them; however, they have never come off accidentally, as yet.

The main or standard trimmer blade is for beard trimming and body grooming with the matching guards/combs, while the larger blade is for hair trimming (plus its corresponding combs).

I had to work out why these interchangeable blades would make any difference and felt at first that just having the wider blade would be best suited; however, the standard –not as wide- blade is better suited for smaller or even trickier areas (more about this further on).

The additional detail blade would be very useful for guys detailing around a goatee or mustache, but many guys will not use this.

Guards/Combs

It seems Philips has put some effort and thought into the design of the various combs. The hair, body, and beard trimming guards do have a slightly different design, and they have also included a specific comb attachment for eyebrow trimming.

Only having two bodyguards (3mm & 5mm) seems limited. 1mm and 7mm guards would be useful if a user needs to get a little closer or prefers more length.

The guards are easy to clip on and off and remain secure while attached.

Many other trimmers come with a single comb and a dial for settings, like the BodyGroom 7000 Series. These are easier to adjust lengths when in use, and some users find these types more convenient. While I see and agree they can be more convenient –It makes little difference to me and is no deal breaker. One advantage of a single adjustable guard is that it does not require multiple combs to store.

Charging & Battery

When I got the MultiGroom MG7750 box, I was surprised to see it written on the front –5 hours runtime. Five hours–What?

charging the Philips Norelco Multigroom MG7750

No shaver or trimmer gives 5 hours of runtime. I investigated more; the manual states 5 hours while the website states 120 minutes runtime.

Despite the confusion about 5 hours or 2 hours of runtime–when I used the trimmer, it lasted for a long time–too long to work out and calculate. It will absolutely trim a person from head to toe and more without needing to recharge.

An orange power light comes on when the battery is close to empty. The light flashes white when it is on charge.

Precision Shaver and Nose/Ear Trimmer

The precision shaver is a small shaver head that can be attached to the trimmer. Philips states it can be used for shaving off any stray hair or leftover hair. I guess it would see to that task, but I never had any need for it, and the trimmer blade would do that anyway.

Nose & Ear Trimmer

The nose and ear trimmer works fine and might be useful for some guys, but the trimmer body is a bit big for that kind of tool and task. I tend to use my small personal nose and ear trimmer and do this when needed, and I could do without this additional attachment.

Cleaning & Maintenance

The cleaning and maintenance of the MultiGroom is easy enough.

After use, I prefer to use the brush and give them a blow first to get rid of hair and then wash them under the tap. The brushing and blowing will get rid of most hair.

The blades are self-sharpening, and Philips states no oiling is required. I am happy to go along with that, but if I were trying to get years out of the trimmer, I might lubricate the blades every so often.

Storage Pouch

The storage pouch is a very light and cheap material type that could be improved. It will store all the guards and attachments but a bit better quality, and maybe room for the trimmer would be nice. It is handy, though, and you could always purchase a nice leather carry pouch/bag for the trimmer kit.

How Does the Philips Norelco Multigroom MG7750 Perfrom

I can feel regret coming on when I get a multigroom shaver or trimmer as I know I have my work cut out to cover as much of the tasks it is supposed to do, and the MG7750 claims to do quite a lot.

Over a period of time, I managed to test out the facial, armpit, chest, head, pubic, and trimming the groin area. One thing I cannot test is hair trimming at various levels, as I sport a bald head and only trim (without a guard/comb) or shave it.

Beard Trimming

Beard trimming, as expected, was done well with the MG7750. While I was only trimming from 7 days of growth, the 1mm stubble comb and trimming to 0.5mm (approx.) without a guard attached worked fine.

There are enough length options from the approx. 0.5mm without a comb to 7mm that should be able to please most gents with beard trimming.

I tested out the wider blade (not that Philips advises it) that Philips states is for trimming hair and preferred having that extra blade width picking up hair to cut. The upside of using the standard blade is it was more comfortable, and the wider blade felt like it scratched the skin at times. The slimmer width is going to be better for detail trimming, anyway.

Body Grooming

I wanted the MG7750 to work well for manscaping to justify it being a useful product for me. It passed well as a beard trimmer, so I needed an extra task it could do well to say it can multigroom.

One thing, as mentioned above, is only having 2 body combs (5 & 3mm), which some users may not be happy with. I am fine with these sizes.

Armpits: I tried out both guards and trimmed down without a guard to test each option. I found it did a great job–no complaints there.

– Chest: The 5mm was a good fit for my chest as I dont like to have the itchy stubble that I get after shaving it to the skin. The main issue with chest shaving is that it is such a large area, and the trimmer width is thin, so it takes some time to complete a chest trim.

The chest is an area where the wider blade would be useful with a hair-clipper attachment. I tested this out, and it worked well for me despite it not being the body groomer blade or guard. I am not saying follow me, as I can only take responsibility for my chest or the trimmer breaking from misuse.

–Pubic/Groin/Balls Areas: The pubic area was easy, and even my sack was easy enough to trim down to the smallest 3mm. I never use trimmers without a comb on my crown jewels, as I have been nicked enough in the past (lesson learned)–I trim with a guard, then shave with a razor.

The MG7750 was great for trimming the groin area between the legs.

Overall, I was happy with the body grooming sessions. I actually prefer this trimmer over the Bodygroom 7000 Series because I don’t like using the foil shaver head on the 7000 Bodygroom, and the wider blade option is useful on the MG7750.

Hair Cutting/Trimming

I don’t grow my hair long as my hairline recedes, but trimming down to the bare minimum is always a good option for me. The wider blade and the head trimming sessions went well and fast enough.

Dedicated hair clippers will do a better job at cutting hair and trimming. Dedicated clippers feature things like an adjustable blade section for fades and a larger blade area, and they are just designed better for those who need a professional-looking cut.

However, despite a dedicated clipper being a better tool for haircuts, if you only need to do a one-size buzz cut all over like me, or someone is very good at cutting hair at various hair lengths for you, then the MG7750 will do the job.

The main thing to consider if you will be using the hair-cutting option on this trimmer is making sure you require at least one other grooming job that it can do. Otherwise, get a decent set of hair clippers.

I would like to mention that those who cut their hair should check out Palm Held DIY Clippers, as these are ideal and more ergonomically friendly for self-cutting.

As I can trim my head, trim my face, and groom my body, the Mutligroom 7000 MG7750 is a pretty good tool for me. Im getting enough use out of it, and it can be ideal while traveling.

Are there any Common Consumer Issues, Complaints, or Positive Reports?

After consolidating all the user reviews and comments I found online, for the most part, the MG7750 gets rave reviews and positive comments.

On Amazon, I had to make sure the comments were about the MG7750 and not the newer MG7910/49 model

These were the types of common positive reoccurring comments I found:

  • As expected, users love the long battery life, and as I stated, it is hard to measure how long it lasts as it lasts so long.
  • Users like how quiet it is, which is something I never considered.
  • Some buyers like having various guard options rather than one adjustable.
  • Another aspect people mentioned that I had not noticed was it does not vibrate a lot like hair clippers.
  • Some guys mention it costs more than their last trimmer. They are happy with the quality and manscaping options available.
  • I was surprised to find some buyers only use it for beard trimming and are very happy with it. My thoughts are to get at least two types of grooming tasks from the MG7750 to make it worth buying, but other guys state they are happy with just beard trimming (my guess is they do some other grooming with it, but maybe not often).

Some useful criticisms are also worth noting:

  • I have seen working out the right guards is tricky at first, which I agree with, but it is no big hassle and just shows how many options are available.
  • I have seen it mentioned a few times that users would like longer guards for hair-cutting and beard-trimming. It is worth checking if the kit includes the sizes you need.
  • I have seen it mentioned and agree that the carry case could be better quality and larger to include packing the trimmer.

Value for Money

The Philips Norelco MG7750 costs around $65, which I would say is a good deal for a solid-quality trimmer that offers the options it does.

We can pick up other trimmers or body groomers cheaper if doing one task (i.e., beard trimming or hair trimming) is all that is required, but for a multitool, the price is hard to beat.

Final Thoughts – Who do I recommend buys and uses the Multigroom 7000 MG7750?

The MG7750 is definitely a good option for guys who beard trim and need one of the other functions, and also for men who manscape alongside beard or hair trimming.

My point is it is a great tool if you can make use of at least two functions. Some guys will be happy with mostly being a beard trimmer, though, but not all.

If the primary use were for hair cutting, then I would go with a proper set of clippers, and if I was DIYing a haircut, then a more ergonomically friendly design that Self-Cut Palm Held devices offer would be better suited.

One thing to keep in mind if you are thinking about buying the MG7750 is to make sure the guards are the right size and can meet your needs.

I am surprised that a multitool has won me over, as I am not usually a fan of shaving or trimming tools that claim to do various tasks at all. This one got the thumbs up!
