Cremo Palo Santo Beard Oil Review – Smooth as Silk

Another day and another beard oil! Once again we are looking at a beard oil from Cremo, your one-stop shop for natural beard products.

This time we are looking at one of their Reserve Collection: the Palo Santo. This gives me all kinds of homesickness vibes for the rolling plains of Texas.

Cremo Palo Oil joined our beard oils recommendations you can check out here10 Best Beard Oils.

How does it measure up to other beard oils? Let’s see!

About the Brand: Cremo is a brand we have looked at before on our site: Cremo Cedar Forest Beard Oil Review. So it might be hard for us to not repeat ourselves as we go over this beard oil. Just know they are a superior brand who have been making barber-grade all-natural beard and hair care products or quite a long time. They are a trusted name in the barber world and make some pretty high-quality stuff.

Cremo Palo Santo Beard Oil Product Descriptions

All-Natural Ingredients

Has a sweet and mellow scent that is very complex

Made in California

Barber Grade

Glass bottle with glass eyedropper to carefully measure out the oil used

1 oz. or 30 ml.

At first, I wasn’t really impressed with this product. Having done the Cedar Forest review first, this “Reserve Collection” oil had a great deal to live up to.

The amber-colored bottle looks pretty small when compared to the Honest Amish bottle as well, so it isn’t hard to feel like you are missing out on something.

I will say right out of the gate that this is definitely its own beast, and worth trying out.

Scent

The scent of this oil is quite complex. It starts off very sweet, smelling of something like coconut and honey. It actually made me think of pina colada at first, which isn’t a good thing. I don’t particularly have a fondness for that coconut and mango flavor.

However, after a few moments it starts to seriously mellow into this dusty leather scent. There is a soft musk that makes me think of old and comfortable work boots and a dusty road. Makes an old cowpoke feel homesick for the ranges of Texas.

Ingredients

Looking at this list of ingredients gives you some real confidence in the product. All of it is easy to understand and easy to pronounce.

HELIANTHUS ANNUUS (SUNFLOWER) SEED OIL,PERSEA GRATISSIMA (AVOCADO) OIL,SIMMONDSIA CHINENSIS (JOJOBA) SEED OIL,ARGANIA SPINOSA (ARGAN) KERNEL OIL,COCOS NUCIFERA (COCONUT) OIL,PARFUM,GLYCINE SOJA (SOYBEAN) OIL,ROSMARINUS OFFICINALIS (ROSEMARY) LEAF EXTRACT,SUNFLOWER SEED OIL GLYCERIDES,TOCOPHEROL,GERANIOL,LIMONENE.

To start with, we know Jojoba is one of the best ingredients for skin care. In fact, I wrote a whole article about Jojoba Per-Shave Oil and DIY Guide stating how it is great for the skin.

Secondly, we have Sunflower oil which has Vitamin E to help the skin look fresh and keep its elasticity. Sunflower oil also has linoleic acid, which keeps the skin moist. This is very important for a growing beard to avoid ingrown hairs as well as the dreaded beardruff.

Avocado oil will help keep your pores clear to avoid acne.

Argan oil is said to hydrate and soften hair and hair follicles.

Coconut Oil promotes the luster and shine of hair to keep it healthy, as does soybean oil.

Finally, Rosemary will help with any inflammation from ingrown hairs, acne, or dandruff.

Personal Experience

I used this oil over a period of several weeks, applying it after showers to help maintain my beard and keep my skin moist.

I also used this in conjunction with a good beard brush to make sure my beard was nice and straight and to remove any excess oil I didn’t need.

How is the Texture?

The texture of this oil is so smooth you would think it was silk. It felt very gentle and soft on the skin without leaving any kind of filmy or sticky feeling you get from lower-quality oils.

Applying it was easy to do, and the smooth texture really helped to get it into the beard and against the skin where it can help both beard health and skin health.

It is worth remembering that a good beard oil is going to help both your skin and your facial hair to be more healthy overall.

How Easy is it to use?

Beard oil is possibly one of the easiest products I’ve had to use short of a normal bar of soap. You just put a few drops into the palm of your hand, rub your hands together, then just slowly work the oil into your beard and your face.

Cremo Palo Santo Beard Oil amount placed on the hand

Easy-peasy lemon squeezy.

The only issue here is that you are going to need more oil than you think. The box/bottle recommends no more than 3 drops per use, but in order to get the oil into my beard, I had to use a good 4-5 drops worth to make sure it went all the way.

Your result might differ though. After all, I have a pretty fat face.

Use on Beard

This is where the Palo Santo really shines. It is designed for working with heavy and full beards to really keep them looking great and healthy.

The ingredients are perfect for maintaining healthy skin and healthy beard hair overall. Regular applications of this on something like a Norse beard are going to really help you stand out.

Use on Stubble

That is not to say those of us without huge full beards are not going to benefit from this oil. The amount of skin-healthy ingredients are going to help guys who have more stubbly beard maintain that nice smooth look.

Often when attempting to get a stubble look, guys will have to fight against the acne and ingrown hairs that plague a good 5 o’clock shadow. This Cremo beard oil is going to cut down on that considerably and help you maintain a nice and healthy skin look.

Value for Money

Much like when we looked at the Cedar Wood beard oil, I am somewhat aghast at how low the price is for this beard oil.

Honestly, I would expect something like $30 USD for this 1 fl oz, but Cremo sells this oil for only $15 USD on their website. On Amazon, it is even less at $11 USD.

At that price, you could do much worse, but not much better. I would highly recommend trying this just to see if you like it. I have no compunction against recommending something at this price.

Common Consumer Complaints, Issues, and Reviews

Like before, most consumer reviews for this product just rave continually about how good it is. People really like beard oil that can deliver healthy skin and healthy hair. Consumers like the scent, they like the medicinal effects, and they love how it makes their beard hair so soft and easy to style.

Some have even said it is like having a brand new beard in place of their old one.

Of the negative reviews for the product, most people seem to not like the smell at all. Some have commented it smells like vegetable or motor oil, to which I have to wonder if they got some kind of bad batch or spoiled oil. The scent is soft though, and I will concede that if you don’t have the best sense of smell, you might miss it entirely.

Others have said the oil caused them to break out into horrible acne. I haven’t experienced this at all, and I am pretty sure that most others haven’t. However, I would also like to note that everyone’s skin is different and unknown skill allergies are always something to worry about.

Final Thoughts – Who is the Cremo Palo Santo Beard Oil For?

Honestly, if you have never tried beard oil before, then this is a great option to start out with. I would highly recommend this oil for anyone who is looking to attempt something new to deal with beardruff and/or constant beard itch.

If you already have a beard oil (like the cedar forest scent), then I might recommend a different product from Cremo just to see if you like this scent. It is definitely something that I think everyone should try and at this price, I can’t see why anyone wouldn’t want to.
