10 Best Beard Oils for 2024 – Each Tested and Reviewed
As we at Shaving Advisor reflect on the year and look forward to the next (2024), we always find ourselves somewhat overwhelmed with all the work we have done. It’s pretty easy for us to get lost in the minutiae of everything we have reviewed, and as a reader, we know it is probably even more overwhelming for you.
You shouldn’t have to comb through our website just to find all the details about which Beard Oil is best for you.
We’ve already come close to that when we published Choosing Beard Oil That Is Right For You -A Guide. In that article, we touched on how we choose and judge our beard oils for reviews. We touch on texture, ingredients, price, scent, and ease of use. All of these things go into finding the best Beard Oils.
If you want more detail on how we make our selections, then just click the above link. However, if you are just looking for which oils we believe are the best overall? We’ve got you covered right here!
1. King C Gillette Beard Oil – Best Priced Option Overall
Starting strong, I wasn’t entirely convinced Gillette would be able to make a product that is more geared toward a more bespoke audience. My anti-corporate bias I suppose.
I was glad to be pleasantly surprised that King C Gillette seemed to be the best a man can get.
Brief Description and Features
King C Gillette Beard Oil is a light beard oil that has a very light and almost breezy texture. Unlike most oils, it evaporates and blends into the skin very quickly.
The bottle itself is small, only 1 ounce of oil is contained inside. It also has an eyedropper design, which means it is easy to control exactly how much you want to use every time you apply the oil.
Star Ingredients
Performance
Because this oil is naturally very thin and light, it won’t stick around for a long time on your skin. It is going to evaporate and blend into the skin quickly. This is great for guys who don’t like the feeling of oil on their skin, but not great for guys who want to style their beards with oil only.
I enjoyed using it, but the thin texture is going to make you need to use more than you think, especially if you have a longer beard.
Things to like
- The Low Price
- All-Natural Ingredients
- Easy to use
- Light Texture
Things to Dislike
- Like Texture means it won’t last
- The “Old Man” aroma
- You always need more than you think
Final Thoughts
King C Gillette is a great beard oil for guys who do not want to spend too much money. It’s also great for guys who are unsure of what they want or need and are just starting with beard care.
Finally, it is very inexpensive, which is a huge plus for high-quality oil. You can get this for a steal at around 10 USD or less on Amazon.
2. Every Man Jack Beard Oil – Best Overall Texture
Next, we have what has become one of my absolute favorites overall.
Every Man Jack seeks to be the best beard oil for the largest number of guys. Whatever your needs in beard oil, they want to try to cover it all in one product.
Brief Description and Features
Packaged with recycled glass, Every Man Jack has the pump-top applicator that I love to see on beard oil bottles. While eyedroppers are more common and give you more control over how much oil you want to use, the pump top is just sooooo much easier to use.
The only real downside is the fact that it’s only a 1-ounce bottle.
Star Ingredients
Performance
EMJ is a thin oil, which makes it very easy to apply and easy to use. I found it worked best for shorter stubble beards rather than longer and denser beard types.
You could use it for a longer beard, but it’s going to take a great deal more oil to make sure to work it through the bristles and into the skin.
Overall, it is really easy to use, but be prepared for a singular scent, as the aroma is closer to that of a cologne or perfume rather than the gentle soft scent you get from many other beard oils.
Things to Like
- Complex Aroma
- Easy-to-Use Pump
- Thin Texture
Things to Dislike
- Aroma takes a long time to disappear
- Best for short stubble
Final Thoughts
Honestly, this beard oil and the Cremo Cedar Forest alternate with me regarding which to wear in a given circumstance. It just comes down to “What do I feel like smelling today?”
Both are great for everyday use, but Every Man Jack eeks out a tiny lead on the basis that it is easier to use with a pump top.
A bottle of Every Man Jack Sandalwood can be picked up for around 11 USD.
3. Suavecito Premium Blends Beard Oil – Best Option for Short Beards
Suavecito is one of those names that inevitably comes up when you start talking about beard products. So it is natural that they would end up on this list.
They have this devil-may-care attitude toward their products, but there is certainly a high amount of care in there as well. It takes a great deal of effort to make something look effortless, and that is true here in this product.
Brief Description and Features
Suavecity refers to this as their premium blend of beard oil, and it feels that way when you look at it.
We have an easy-to-use pump top, a heavy-duty glass bottle, and some very rich and well-mixed aromas. The variety in the scents is great, with seven aromas on offer.
When I used the oil, I used the Whiskey bar scent, which I loved (yeah, I am a basic white dude). I am intrigued by the other aromas just because of the subtlety of the Whiskey Bar.
It’s also a more expensive option, which is always a sticking point.
Star Ingredients
Performance
I liked the oil on my skin because it had such a smooth texture and didn’t leave a lasting greasy feeling on my face.
My one issue is that it seemed to dry out extremely fast. This is strange because it is almost on the edge of being a gel rather than an oil.
Things to Like
- Subtle Aroma
- No residue or greasy feeling
- Smooth Texture
Things to Dislike
- More Expensive than it should be
- Dries too quickly
- Ingredients are not the best for your skin
Final Thoughts
This is a great option, but something that might be cost-prohibitive for most guys. When not on sale, it costs up to 20 USD on Amazon. I suppose if you want premium quality, you pay for it?
4. Cremo Cedar Forest Beard Oil – Best Everyday Wear
Cremo is one of those brand names that I trust when it comes to beard health. I’ve tried multiple products of theirs and only once did they disappoint.
Thankfully this one was not one of those disappointments.
Brief Description and Features
Cremo Cedar Forest felt like a manifestation of my favorite camping trips. I enjoyed using this almost for the aroma alone.
It is an eyedropper design, so it isn’t the easiest to use, but the oil itself is nice enough for me to put up with that for the most part.
Star Ingredients
Performance
The oil is a light mixture so it’s pretty easy to get it through your beard and into your skin.
I found my face quite refreshed and clean after applying Cremo Cedar Forest, and I felt very much like I was ready to take on the world.
The only downside is the eyedropper which makes it awkward to use when you are in a rush. I still prefer the pump-top over everything else.
Also, I didn’t notice it taking effect to make my beard better until about a week after I started using it.
Things to Like
- Deep Woods Aroma
- All-Natural Ingredients
- Leaves skin feeling refreshed
Things to Dislike
- It takes a few days of application for it to affect your skin
- Beard will always need more oil than you think
- Little oil for just 12 USD
Final Thoughts
As I mentioned before with Every Man Jack, this beard oil alternates with my everyday use beard oil. I don’t use beard oil every day, but when given the options it is almost always this or EMJ. That should tell you everything you need to know.
A bottle of this Cremo beard oil costs around 12 USD.
5. Grave Before Shave Beard Oil – Best Overall Option for Longer Beards
Are you into the goth subculture? Are you a discerning gentleman? Then do I have a great option here for you.
Grave Before Shave has a goth macabre mood that seems to alternate between the goth biker and goth Victorian affectation.
Honestly, that was made deliberately to steal all of my money.
Brief Description and Features
Coming to us with the ever-popular eyedropper design, Graven Before Shave Beard Oil is a cosmetic deliberately formulated to help with itch and scratchy beards. Unlike the other beard oils on this list, it was put together to work with longer beards. That explains its thicker and more dense texture.
The aroma I got was the bourbon scent, which hit with a sweet vanilla bean scent before fading into something more complex.
Star Ingredients
Performance
I don’t have a longer beard, so I feel like Grave Before Shave Beard Oil is slightly wasted on me.
The thick texture isn’t bad, but it certainly isn’t for me. It acts almost like a styling oil rather than a medicated oil. That isn’t a bad thing, but it isn’t for me specifically.
Perhaps I should just grow more of a beard then?
Things to Like
- Eyedropper design is easy to use
- Made with Essential Oils
- All-Natural Ingredients
Things to Dislike
- Thick Texture leaves the skin feeling greasy
- Scent can clash with other beard products
Final Thoughts
If you need an oil for your longer beard, then this is the oil for you. If you can find it on sale, then even better.
Make sure to look at all their available scents and choose the one best for you.
A bottle of Grave Before Shave costs around 12 USD.
6. Cremo Palo Santo Beard Oil – Best Overall Premium Option
The second Cremo brand oil on our list here, this beard oil is for the gentleman who knows exactly what he wants.
It has a complex aroma that changes over the course of the day, and always a feeling that it is improving the quality of your beard.
Brief Description and Features
The aroma is also one of my favorites in its complexity. It starts with this Pina Colada kind of coconut sweetness, but about 30 minutes later it mellows to this leathery dusk kind of scent. When I used this oil the first time I was still in Boston, and it made me so homesick for Texas.
This is a premium oil, meaning it is (advertised) as a special mixture of only the best ingredients.
Star Ingredients
Performance
The thing that stands out the most when using this beard oil is just how smooth it comes out. It feels rich and yet not too thick. While I had trouble getting some of it out of the eyedropper (pump tops are just so much better) because it was so smooth, it quickly spread out over my face and just gently evaporated and medicated my skin in a very gentle way.
Much like Cremo Cedar Forest though, it took several days for it to start helping and healing my skin, so be prepared for that.
Things to Like
- Complex Aroma that slowly changes as it dries
- Silky smooth texture
- Takes a long time to dry
Things to Dislike
- Thick texture can clog the eyedropper
- Works very slowly to medicate your beard
Final Thoughts
I did not think I was going to like Palo Santo, but it has a special place with me. I enjoyed using it and enjoyed the feeling of it on my skin.
A Premium Oil without having to spend premium prices is just straight perfect. Costs around 13 USD.
7. Honest Amish Classic Beard Oil – Vegan and All-Natural Option
Epic Beards and Funny Clothing! That and high-quality furniture are what you think of when it comes to the Amish.
Yet, how do they get such nice-looking facial hair? Honest Amish may have the answer to that question.
Brief Description and Features
Honest Amish is a great option if you are looking for something that is Cruelty-Free and Vegan.
As a person who has loved ones who are vegan, more vegan options are needed in all industries.
In this case, Honest Amish has you covered with this well-mixed and classic-style beard oil.
The only real downside is the fact that you will have an omnipresent “Old Man” smell when you wear this beard oil
Star Ingredients
Performance
Old Man smell aside, this formula was light and airy and left my skin feeling refreshed. There was no residue or greasiness, and it evaporated quickly.
While my skin felt great, it did leave my beard hair feeling dry and brittle. I did not like that aspect at all. Perhaps avoid this one if your skin is feeling sensitive and dry.
Things to Like
- Vegan Formula
- Lightweight texture
- Leaves the skin feeling nice and clean
Things to Dislike
- Dries out very quickly
- Aroma overpowers everything else
- Dries out your beard hair
Final Thoughts
A classic option that isn’t too expensive. If you are looking for a vegan and natural option, give Honest Amish a try.
A bottle of Classic Oil from Honest Smish costs around 12 USD.
8. Jack Black Beard Oil – Suitable For Medium to Longer Beards
No relation to the musician and actor Jack Black, this beard oil is just about as vanilla as you can get. It doesn’t stand out from the pack in any way.
That doesn’t mean it is bad at all, but that means that it also isn’t going to be higher on this list.
Brief Description and Features
If there is someplace it might stand out, that is the aroma. It is unscented, but there is something about the aroma that makes it smell artificial. It is as if it was just manufactured in a lab. On its own, that’s off-putting enough.
At least it has one positive, being the pump top that can turn and lock. That makes it great to travel with so it won’t leak out over your other toiletries.
Star Ingredients
Performance
We have another beard oil here that is most well-suited for medium to longer beard lengths. The thick texture works well to help style the beard and make sure things stay in place while also medicating the skin and hair.
Things to Like
- Almost completely unscented
- All-Natural Ingredients
- Thick Texture for longer beards
Things to Dislike
- Expensive for only 1 ounce
- Sticky texture
Final Thoughts
How many times can I say bland in one section?
It isn’t bad, it’s just somewhat boring. It is a safe option if you have no other options on the table.
You can pick up a bottle of Jack Black Beard Oil for 28 USD, so its a pricey option.
9. Duke Cannon Best Damn Beard Oil – Good Bang For Your Buck
I did not like Duke Cannon’s products overall. However, many and more guys do, and finding the best beard oil suitable for you guys is not only about my preferences.
Mostly because I just don’t go in for the MAN’S MAN kind of advertising and branding. Toxic Masculinity is already a hurdle we are having to get over, I don’t need my cosmetics claiming they are only for Lumberjacks and Mountain Men. My feelings and opinions of advertising spiel should not discredit a product, though, and they do not here (I just like to have a voice on these matters).
Brief Description and Features
All that being said, Best Damn Beard Oil isn’t bad. It is serviceable as a beard oil for guys with moderately thick facial hair. It is designed to untangle and smooth out a nest of tangled beard and mustache hair.
Unfortunately, it has the most bass-akward method of dispensing beard oil. Rather than using an eyedropper or pump top, you shake it out onto your hand like ketchup. Do I have to explain how much of a mess that leaves?
At least the bottle is larger, so you get more beard oil.
Star Ingredients
Performance
The texture of the beard oil is excellent and is very easy to apply once you get it out. It feels smooth and soft on the skin, with a soft enough texture to be able to work into your beard hair and the skin.
It also takes a long time to dry, so if you want to make sure your beard is protected from the elements, then this oil is the one you want.
Things to Like
- Smooth and easy-to-apply texture
- Large Bottle that will last
- Dries very slowly
Things to Dislike
- Shake-Dropper design just makes a mess
- Aroma is very off-putting
Final Thoughts
Past the machismo marketing, Duke Cannon isn’t all that bad. I would not say it is the Best Damn Beard Oil, but you could do a great deal worse than this one.
You do get a good bang for your buck on this one (approx 30 USD), though it is more expensive than it really should be.
A lot of guys like this stuff!
10. Narroway Homestead Beard Oil – A Small Brand and a Lot of Coffee Scent
Last but not least, we have a beard oil from a small business built on social media. Narroway Homestead is a West Virginia Homesteader who supplements his income with sales from the Narroway Homestead website.
Part of his inventory in the Narroway Homestead store is a suite of beard products including this beard oil
Brief Description and Features
Overall, the Narroway Homestead beard oil is pretty simplistic. It is just Sunflower Oil and Almond Oil mixed with whatever fragrance you ordered. That isn’t a bad thing at all, and it means that you know exactly what you are getting.
I also should note that it came in this cool burlap carrying bag, which I know I am going to repurpose for something cool in the future
The fragrance I chose when I reviewed this product was Fresh Coffee, and it was amazing. I almost got a caffeine high just from the smell, even though there isn’t any caffeine in the beard oil itself.
Star Ingredients
Performance
The one real downside I found when using this beard oil was the fact that it seemed to take a long time to dry. There was an intense coffee smell on my face for hours.
Luckily it didn’t leave my face feeling oily or greasy at all. It just took a long time for me to smell anything other than coffee.
Things to Like
- Rich and distinct Aroma
- Simple and easy-to-read ingredients
- Small business owned
Things to Dislike
- Thick texture takes a long time to dry
- Has no hold for longer beards
- The strong scent will clash with other aromas
Final Thoughts
Feel like supporting a small business? Then this is a great option. I would recommend this one to anyone who wants something elegantly simple with a singular scent. It’s also not that bad of a price point at 20 USD for a 2 fl oz. bottle.
