Every Man Jack Beard Oil Review – The Masculine Standard
The variety of beard oils just never ceases!
This is good for me, all things considered, because there is nothing I enjoy more than bringing you unbiased, experience-based reviews on beard oils. Well, there is one thing I enjoy more, but that isn’t beard-related.
Today, we are looking at a new (to me) brand called Every Man Jack. Honestly, the name makes me think of being on a pirate ship, but this brand lacks the nautical theme and instead emphasizes outdoor adventure.
Every Man Jack joined our beard oils recommendations you can check out here — 10 Best Beard Oils.
The last beard oils I reviewed were the Grave Before Shave, Jack Black, and King C Gillette Beard Oil, so I was looking forward to testing out the stuff from EMJ.
On the Every Man Jack website, they offer their beard oil in a few different varieties. Mostly divided by scent. The three aromas they have on offer for the type of beard oil we are reviewing are Sandalwood, Aged Bourbon, and Sea Salt.
In addition to that, there is a small batch version as well that seems to be the premium thicker textured oil. That one comes in a Hinoki Spice Scent and contains more essential oils.
Their website lists two additional aromas: Cedarwood and Natural Hemp. However, I don’t see those on offer for their beard oils on the Every Man Jack website. You can find the Cedarwood scent on Amazon, though.
Today, we will take a look at the regular Sandalwood oil, which is the same oil in texture, ingredients etc., as the Aged Bourbon, and Sea Salt, with the only difference being the scent.
Description and Features
So, my first thought when I grabbed this bottle was just how heavy it felt.
Apparently, Every Man Jack makes its packaging out of recycled products, and they decided to go with real glass rather than plastic.
That makes the bottle pretty hefty by nature, with a pleasant clinking sound when you knock it against other stuff. Feels pretty thick, though sometimes that could be a double-edged sword. A thick bottle means there is less oil in the bottle itself.
The top uses a plastic pump rather than the standard eyedropper design. We looked at the Jack Black Beard Oil in the recent past, and honestly, that was possibly the best part of that beard oil. However, in this case, Every Man Jack doesn’t have the ability to lock the pump to keep it from accidentally spilling.
The Small Batch Premium oil does use the eyedropper method, which probably works better with the heavier texture.
The only part of the packaging and bottle that I really have to complain about is the cap has a tendency to leak if not left upright.
I recently traveled with this in my checked baggage and found that it leaked on some of my other stuff in the toiletries bag.
If you decide to travel with this, then you might want to put it in its own little baggy.
Scent
The aroma of this beard oil is a complex mixture of sweet and musky. It almost comes out as a cologne or aftershave scent. Something you’d wear to specifically attract someone rather than just keep your beard nice and groomed.
It starts sweet with a bourbon/vanilla aroma, but not too sweet. It isn’t cloying, but certainly has a delightful start.
The scent quickly shifts to something more musky, dipping into the natural sandalwood aroma that hangs on for a while. It is very warm and gentle overall.
If there is something not to like about the aroma, it’s that the scent really sticks around for a while. Most beard oils will dissipate about an hour after you apply it, but this one will stick around for hours. Hope you like the scent because it will hang on your face for several hours after you apply it.
Partner Reaction
So what does my partner think?
In a few words, it’s….okay. Doesn’t like the sweet aroma, but does enjoy the deep and musky part of the scent.
Ingredients
Every Man Jack likes to bring up its all-natural and plant-based ingredients, and I do have to agree they have some great things in this oil. I am going to hit some of the high notes:
—Sunflower Seed Oil: Sunflower seed oil works as an antioxidant, keeping the skin nice and healthy when exposed to sun or wind. It also creates a strong moisture barrier to keep the skin soft and keep it from drying out.
—Soybean Oil: Soybean oil promotes shiny hair in the same way that Sunflower Seed oil does. It holds the moisture in and promotes hair growth. It is also a very good source of vitamin E.
—Olive Oil: Olive oil is full of Oleic Acid which softens the skin. The softer the skin, the less likely your skin is going to break out into ingrown hairs or acne. It also provides conditioning for thick and curly hair to make it softer and straighter.
—Argan Oil: Oleic acid is also present in Argan oil, but in addition to the above, it will also promote healthy skin and repair damage from the environment.
—Cypress Leaf Oil: Powerful anti-inflammatory, Cypress leaf oil is really good at treating acne and irritation. It also can keep any cuts from trimming and shaving from getting infected.
—Juniper Fruit Oil: Juniper Berries are a common essential oil, known for treating everything from hair loss to skin irritation.
—Linseed Oil: Known for repairing damaged hair, Linseed oil is also great for promoting hair growth by opening up the pores. It also helps keep the skin moist and treats dry and flaky skin, stopping the dreaded beard druff.
User Experience
For this review, I used this beard oil on my face every other day for a week.
I always applied it to a clean and well-groomed beard after brushing it out. This works best if you use it right after showering or washing your face.
How is the Texture?
This beard oil is nice and light. Not watery or thin, but nothing heavy and waxy.
After applying this, I didn’t feel any kind of residue or build-up on my face. It evaporated pretty quickly, leaving only the soft scent.
I prefer these lighter textured oils, but if you have a heavier beard than I do, you might want something heavier as well. The light texture means that it takes more work to get the oil down into the skin.
If you have a longer beard, you might need to use more oil than you think. It’s always a negative because you will work through the oil quicker and have to order more sooner.
How Easy is it to Use?
It’s pretty easy overall.
Just add this to your routine after a nice shower or washing your face. Three pumps are typically enough for my face, but then again, I have been blessed with a pretty full face and cheeks.
I know I say this in almost every article, but it is honestly true. Make sure to clean your beard and skin before using this beard oil. Otherwise, you are seriously going to risk some acne and irritation issues.
Value for Money
As of right now, you can find this beard oil on Amazon or the Every Man Jack website for around $12 USD.
That isn’t a bad price to be honest, but there are some less expensive options out there. King C Gillette Beard Oil is only about $6 USD, and is actually a good quality.
On the other hand, I have also reviewed beard oils that are priced more than $20 USD, and those were definitely not as high quality as this product.
Overall, this price isn’t bad if you are looking for something new to try, but if you are just looking for something inexpensive, I would pass.
Common Consumer Complaints, Issues, and Positive Reviews
The reviews for this beard oil are heavily skewed toward the positive. Though wading through most of them includes some hyperbolic statements, we can grab some important info from them.
Positive Reviews
One of the largest positives that I am reading from other consumers is the scent. People really love the aroma. They love the cologne-like scent, often calling it manly and outdoorsy.
Consumers are also fans of the cruelty-free and all-natural ingredients. In this time of socio-economic instability, knowing your product is actually good for the environment and good for your body. The idea of sustainability when it comes to these products is valuable. If nothing else, it can make you feel good about what you are putting on your beard.
Finally, many consumers enjoy how it conditions the beard. They like how the beard oil helps grow their beard longer and quicker and keeps longer beards from frizzing out. It really helps beards with curly strands to stay straight and clean-looking.
Consumer Complaints
Complaints about this product are few and far between. Many consumers really enjoy this product. However, there are some valid complaints people have.
Honestly, when you look at reviews online, more than anything, people bring up the scent. As much as people love the aroma, there are plenty of people who actually find it really off-putting. They don’t like the old-fashioned musk aroma, and the fact that it really clings to you.
Having issues with the scent is more than mildly subjective, really, but I can see why people don’t like it. Most consumers that talk about it liken it to the smell of grandparents, but each to their own, I suppose.
I have seen one consumer who decided to bring their hatred of Soybeans into a discussion about beard products. I thought we as a society were past our hatred of soy products, but I guess some people still have issues with a bean that has been cultivated by humans for centuries…
Final Thoughts – Who is Every Man Jack Hydrating Beard Oil really for?
Final thoughts on a product like this are always hard to put into words without sounding like I am going to repeat myself.
Honest thought is that this Beard Oil is really nothing you can’t get from any other source. I like the pump on the top of the bottle, as that makes it so much more usable than the eyedropper method, but the oil itself is much like many other oils.
So should you get it? If you want to try something new, go for it; but if you already have a favorite beard oil, this one isn’t going to replace it.
