Best Braun Shaver for Men? — 2024 Recommendations
When comparing and buying electric shavers, the company Braun is at the top of the charts within the US and many other countries in terms of the number of units sold and popularity.
There is good reason for Brauns popularity; they produce some of the best foil-type shavers, and their only real competition is Panasonic and Remington.
The Braun Series
Braun identifies each shaver within a series. The series starts with 1, then 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 9 Pro, and you’ll notice there is no series 2 or 4.
As you can guess, the lower the series number, the lower the shaver price and its potential performance.
Which Braun Shaver Should I Choose?
The first point we all consider is cost and what we can afford or are willing to spend on a shaver.
Braun shavers can get very pricey!
Price range – $40 – $300+
Other factors to consider alongside how much is going to be deducted on your credit or debit card include:
- Beard Type – Coarse beard growth and longer growth require a more powerful motor and good cutting elements.
- Sensitive Skin – Men with sensitive skin that pick up irritation easily have to consider the right shaver and often have to invest a bit more money.
- Close shave – All Braun shavers will provide a close shave, but some offer that extra closeness.
- Shaving time – Some shavers are much quicker than others and spend less time shaving over missed patches.
- Comfort – The comfort factor of how the foils and cutters interact with the skin is important.
There are other considerations like accessories and attachments, but they are mainly cosmetic and should not influence the shaver choice very much.
Let’s take a look at my top 3 Braun Shavers for Men and why I recommend them. I’ve kept it simple and narrowed down my choice for simplicity.
I have tested, used, and reviewed these shavers previously.
1. Braun Series 9 Pro – The Best Performance on all Levels
After the Braun Series 9, the company introduced the Braun Series 9 Pro.
The 9 Pro had some slight improvements or changes, but the main difference was that the Series 9 Pro performed better.
The Series 9 Pro Features:
- Sonic technology with 40,000 cross-cutting actions per minute – The 40’000 cross-cutting actions per minute mean the four shaving elements (foils etc.) are all moving within that minute. 10’000 micro-vibrations also aim to make the shave experience more comfortable.
- 5 synchronized shaving elements – The five shaving elements are 2 x optifoils, 1 Prolift trimmer, 1 direct & cut trimmer, and a skin guard.
- Precision Switch -A switch on the shaver’s body that locks and unlocks the movement of the head.
- 40° Flexible Head – Head moves and adapts to the contours of the face.
- Safety lock – If you wish to take your shaver on your travels with you, you can hold the on/off button for a few seconds and lock the shaver’s power off.
- Charging and battery – A fully charged battery takes up to an hour to be charged, although users can give the shaver a quick 5-minute charge for 1 or 2 shaves. A full charge will give users about an hour of cordless shaving time.
- Trimmer – A trimmer can be used on the back of each Series 9 Pro shaver. Press the button to unlock and slide the trimmer above the shaver head.
Series 9 Pro Performance
Compared to any other foil-type electric shaver used thus far, the 9 Pro provided the most comfort while shaving without sacrificing how fast it shaved and how close the end result was.
If any patches of hair are missed, the 9 Pro clears them up easily on the next stroke.
This shaver’s ergonomics and head movement function very well and enable the shaver to perform better and deal with the various contours of the face very well.
Should You Buy The Series 9 Pro?
If you have deeper pockets or are willing to part with the cash these higher-priced shavers cost, then the Series 9 Pro is well worth buying, and it’s a hard shaver to fault when comparing it to the best of shavers.
Those new to shaving with an electric shaver may not appreciate its good performance due to their lack of experience using other shavers.
The Series 9 Pro is priced up at around $249 USD + (£240 GBP + €239 EU +).
2. Braun Series 7 Flex – Best Overall Braun Shaver
The Braun Series 7 added to the recommendations here is the Flex generation. The 360° head movement is the reason it is the Flex generation of Series 7 shavers.
While the Series 7 has the same 24’000 cutting elements and main design as the Series 6 and 5, the head offers more movement and shaves closer and quicker.
The Series 7 Flex Features:
- AutoSense Technology – This enables the shaver to sense beard density and adjust the motor to the power that is required.
- Cutting Actions – The 7 Series offers 24’000 cutting actions per minute.
- 360° Flex Head – It can adapt and move with the various contours of the face and aims to make shaving tricky areas much easier.
- Shaving Elements – This shaver has 3 flexible shaving elements/blades. Two of these are foils, and a cutter is in the center.
- Easy Click Attachments – The shaving head can be clipped on and off for changing the head or using the attachment trimmer. The beard trimmers must be attached to the precision trimmer.
- Charging and Battery – A fully charged battery takes up to an hour to be charged, although users can give the shaver a quick 5-minute charge for 1 or 2 shaves. A full charge will give users about 50 minutes of cordless shaving time.
- Travel Safety Lock – The on/off button can be held to lock the shaver and unlock it when a person takes it on their travels.
Series 7 Flex Performance
The cutting actions of 24’000 per minute and the power of the Series 7 shavers motor are more than enough to provide most users with a good shave that’s pretty quick.
The Flex generation of this series has a slimline body, and unlike many other shavers, it sits more comfortably within the hand when in use. The ergonomics are ideal.
The Series 7 does not provide the same level of comfort, shaving speed, and other factors that the Series 9 Pro provides. However, it is not lacking, and the price difference between the Series 7 and Pro is quite significant.
Before using the Series 9 Pro, the Series 7 Flex was my top shaver.
Should You Buy The Series 7 Flex?
If you are looking to buy a foil shaver at around the $100 mark or slightly above and do not wish to start spending up to $200 or more on a Series 8, 9, or 9 Pro, then the Series 7 is worth considering.
Buyers considering upgrading their existing shaver from a much cheaper model but don’t want to spend too much can consider the Series 7 Flex.
This slimline body of the Braun Series 7 Flex and head movement is an important feature and design to consider.
The Series 7 Flex costs around $130+ USD (£150+ GBP – €178,00 + EU).
3. Braun Series 5 EasyClean – Best Affordable
The Braun Series 5 EasyClean has a very good balance of costs vs. performance. While it will not shave as fast, close, or as comfortably as shavers like the Series 8 and 9 (or 9 Pro) it’s a better option than going too cheap on your shaver investment.
The Series 5 has the same design as the Series 6 (SensoFlex) and 7 Flex 360°. It’s slim, with good ergonomics, and has three cutting elements, but it does not offer any head movement or flexibility.
The Series 5 EasyClean Features:
- Handle/Body – The slim handle within the body is shaped for a user’s hand. The sides of the body also have a soft rubber grip material.
- Blades – This shaver is a foil type that operates with three flexible blades. Two of the cutters are foils for getting a close shave, and the middle cutter should help lift and/or reduce the size of longer hairs.
- Easy Clean System – The EasyClean feature of the Braun Series 5 is the opening made within the neck of the shaver, which enables the shaver to be washed through easily under the tap.
- Charging and Battery – The rechargeable Li-Ion should provide a user with 50 minutes of runtime, and it takes approximately 1 hour for the battery to charge fully.
Series 5 EasyClean Performance
While the Series 5 does not offer any head movement, the three cutting elements move independently, which does improve how the shaver moves along various contours of the face.
I found the EasyClean section gimmicky as the shaver cleans up manually well enough –just like the Series 6 and 7, and they do not have the EasyClean feature. However, companies like Braun try to give us more compelling reasons to buy, even if the feature does not offer much.
The Series 5 provided a comfortable and irritation-free shave and preferred two days of growth but struggled a little with heavier growth.
Should You Buy the Series 5 EasyClean?
If you shave daily or every two days and do not have coarse growth, then the Series 5 EasyClean is worth considering, especially if you don’t want a pricey shaver but also do not want a cheap shaver that will not last.
It could make a suitable first-choice shaver for someone new to using electric shavers.
The Braun Series 5 is sold for around $69.99+ US, £64.99+UK, and €75+ EU.
Other Braun Shavers
Series 1
The Series 1 was not worth adding to this comparison. It’s not worth the price compared to the others I recommend.
Series 3
Braun also has a Series 3, and while the latest Series 3 ProSkin is a good shave for a Series 3, the price is so close to the Braun Series 5, and it is much better that I would recommend the Series 5.
Braun MobileShave M-90
Need a shaver to take on your travels or keep in the desk drawer to keep that 5 o’clock shadow at bay? The Braun MobileShave M-90 is an interesting travel shaver with a few cute features. While it does not perform anything like the top-end shavers, the battery-operated affordable shaver is a hit with many gents.
Series 6
The Series 6 SensoFlex is a very similar shaver to the Series 7 and 5 in terms of design. The head flexes backward and forward, but the Series 7 provides more head movement. When comparing the price and features, I found that the Series 5 EasyClean and then a jump to the Series 7 Flex better deals.
Series 8
The Series 8 is a great shaver, but it costs quite a lot more than the Series 7 and is designed more like the Series 9 Pro; however, when comparing the Series 9 Pro with the Series 8, I found it was worth the extra money spent on the Series 9 Pro.
