Manscaped Beard Oil Review – Serviceable Oil, But That Scent!

To go with my previous review of Manscaped Beard Shampoo, I am going to share my experience and views on the Manscaped Beard Oil!

As I noted in that review, Manscaped has been a presence in the Male Grooming sphere for a while. I recall them when they were advertising by paying influencers for self-promoting ads. However, they are now available on store shelves and throughout Amazon.

I did not have much luck with thed Manscaped Beard Shampoo. So, let’s see how their beard oil stacks up.

Description and Features

Dermatologist Tested

Paraben and Phthalate Free

Contains Various Natural Oils

Vegan and Cruelty Free

Pump Top Design

Made in the USA

1 fl oz/30 ml

The bottle that this beard oil comes in is small and easily held. I can almost palm the entire thing. This makes it relatively easy to travel with, and the amount of oil (1 oz) is well below the maximum that can be carried on a plane.

The top features a lockable pump top, making it easy to travel with and use. Turning it clockwise makes sure that it is locked in place, so you don’t have to worry about beard oil accidentally spilling over your entire medicine bag.

Manscaped claims its beard oil is clinically tested to make sure it is safe for sensitive skin. I cannot find much information on how they tested it in a clinical setting, but I can say that some of their products do have a medicinal feeling to them.

Scent

I am very sensitive to smells, and I have a thing for interesting and pleasing aromas. One of the main perks of this job is that I get to sample a wide range of scents when reviewing beard washes, beard oils, and shaving soaps from various brands.

This is where I run into the huge iceberg that sinks this ship.

Manscaped Beard Oil smells absolutely awful. I’m not sure if I received a bad batch or if every sample is like this, but it was so off-putting that I desperately wanted to wash it off my face all day.

It gives off the aroma of cooking oil mixed with a musky compost heap. Not even good cooking oil. Like this stuff feels scraped off a used griddle.

If that isn’t a damning take, then I don’t know what is.

Ingredients

For how bad this beard oil smells, it sure has an amazing amount of ingredients in it: Castor Oil, Flax Seed Oil, Sweet Almond, Sunflower, Avocado, Jojoba, Vitamin E, and Caprylic Capric Triglyceride (which is a combination of coconut and palm kernel oil).

All of these are amazing for our skin. They are great at locking in moisture, fighting inflammation, protecting skin from the elements, and promoting the shine of hair and skin.

The formula also wins extra points for being both vegan and cruelty-free. There is no ethical consumption under capitalism, but being conscious of what you are buying is appropriate.

For the horrible smell, at least it is pretty healthy to put on the skin.

All these ingredients mixed might be why the texture is so thick.

User Experience

For this review, I used this product every few days for three weeks on my clean beard.

Unfortunately, that meant I had to smell it and feel it for hours. There were times that I had to absolutely force myself not to wash and scrub my face after using it. How else could I give it a fair shake?

Normally, I only take two weeks to review a beard oil or beard shampoo, but I was dreading putting this on my face because of both the smell and the texture.

The texture is heavy and thick. This is likely in part due to the combination of different oils.

While having a good texture to protect the beard over the long term throughout the day is beneficial, feeling the heavy oil texture all day is never something I have liked.

If you have any kind of sensory issues, such as feeling oily skin, stay away from this oil.

Like most beard oils, it is not that hard to use.

After cleaning your beard, whether by washing your face or taking a shower, simply apply a small amount of oil to your hands and massage it into your beard.

I also like to brush my beard out with a boar hair brush to ensure it is evenly spread over all of my beard.

If you can run your fingers through your beard, you can use this beard oil.

The one downside is that the pump top squirts out just a bit too much oil for me. With the heavy texture, it just seems to make me dislike this oil even more. I also use more of it than I intend, which can cause me to run out faster.

Value for Money

As of the time of writing, the cost is $15 USD on Amazon and on the Manscaped Website. However, if you are a part of the Manscaped VIP Program (which requires spending more than $ 100 on their website in a year), you can get 13 percent off, making it $13.

For those following along at home, that translates to approximately 1.5 pizzas on our scale.

For me, this is nowhere near a good deal. Not just because of the base cost, but because I know for a fact that I can find an oil that doesn’t make me want to scrub my face for a comparable price.

Final Thoughts – (Verdict – Who’s it For?)

Overall, I cannot recommend Manscaped Beard Oil. While it has some great ingredients and is easy to use, the thick texture, as well as the unpleasant smell, make it impossible for me to recommend this beard oil.

I can recommend some less expensive and more pleasant options. I wrote an article breaking down the Best Beard Oils, and two options (King C Gillette Beard Oil and Every Man Jack Beard Oil) are massive improvements over this one in aroma, texture, and price.

Honestly, because of the scent, I would say this beard oil is best for no one; it smells that awful. However, discounting that, I would say it is good for guys who need long-lasting protection for their beard and their skin.
